The Opportunity

A leading consultancy in the nuclear sector is seeking a Nuclear Safety & Technical expert to join its growing team. Whether you’re supporting new build projects, decommissioning legacy facilities, or enhancing the safety of ongoing operations, this is a role where your expertise will drive real impact. In this position, you’ll be a key player in delivering robust and technically sound safety documentation, contributing both independently and as part of a supportive team of consultants. You’ll manage small to medium-sized projects, build strong client relationships, and help nurture the growth of less experienced team members. Our client is looking for 2 Consultants to join their friendly Nuclear Safety team. Within the Nuclear Safety discipline, you will deliver technically competent documents, striving to exceed client requirements by working independently as well as supporting experienced Nuclear Safety Consultants.

The Role

You will support the end client in projects of new build, decommissioning or ongoing operational facilities by providing safety cases and associated assessments. Ensuring work is delivered to a high standard, in a timely fashion, and to the programme agreed. As projects progress, or new ones become available, you will have the opportunity to develop new skills and to support and mentor graduate consultants within the business.

Your duties and responsibilities
  • Delivering consultancy that meets, and exceeds the expectations of the client, in regard to technical excellence, the quality of deliverables, timescales and cost, in a way that supports the long-term growth of the business and its reputation.
  • Providing nuclear safety advice, guidance and deliverables for multi discipline projects.
  • Actively participating in the integrated design process and interfacing with engineers and human factors specialists.
  • Developing and presenting robust and reasoned arguments in a rational and coherent manner.
  • Representing the Company on technical matters to clients/external stakeholders.
  • Providing technical checking & verification for technical / compliance / thoroughness of argument / QA standards.
  • Liaising with all concerned on technical progress.
  • Identifying opportunities with clients and supporting, mentoring, coaching and helping others to develop within the business.
You will have the following qualifications & experience
  • Ability to confidently liaise with external stakeholders and team members, both oral and written.
  • Ability to independently seek out or develop one’s own answer to challenging technical questions.
  • Ability to organise one’s own time and the time of others to ensure internal / external deadlines are achieved and Client expectations are exceeded.
  • Minimum of 2 years professional engineering/technical specialist experience.
  • Have a degree or equivalent in engineering, science or related field of study.
  • Basic understanding of the safety case production process and methodologies.
  • Familiarity with areas such as decommissioning, optioneering, best practice, human factors, radioactive materials transport, licensing, radioactive waste.
  • The successful candidate must, by the start of the employment, have permission to work in the UK, and be willing to obtain SC clearance.
The setting for the role

The role will be mainly office based with trips to site if required. A safety induction will be provided. The successful candidate can be based at our Abingdon or Warrington office.
