Overview

Multiskilled Maintenance Technician with mechanical bias sought by a recycling facility in Runcorn. This subsidiary of an international plastics manufacturer is focused on growing the circular economy and they see innovation within PVC recycling as pivotal to their global sustainability strategy. This is a permanent role on a weekly rotating shift pattern: 6am to 2pm and 2pm to 10pm. Within the business this role is known as Mechanical Technician.

The Role

As a Multiskilled Maintenance Technician with mechanical bias, you’ll be working as part of a team on the installation, maintenance and troubleshooting of bearing replacements, conveyor belts, motor gearbox replacements, electrical and instrumentation equipment in compliance with industry regulations, Health & Safety standards, and company procedures.

  • Carrying out mechanical tasks as part of a multifunctional team: bearing replacements, conveyor belts, motor gearbox replacements
  • Carrying out TPM tasks to ensure maximum OEE is achieved
  • Participating in continuous improvement initiatives, identifying opportunities to enhance system reliability and efficiency
  • Working closely with engineers, production teams and external contractors to ensure timely resolution of issues
  • Following strict Health & Safety guidelines, conducting risk assessments and ensuring compliance with safe work practices
  • Working as part of a team installing, calibrating and maintaining electrical and instrumentation systems including motors, sensors, actuators, PLCs and control panels
  • Troubleshooting: diagnosing and repairing electrical and instrumentation faults on a variety of systems
  • Performing routine testing, calibration and validation of instrumentation and control systems to ensure optimal performance
  • Accurately maintaining records of all electrical and instrumentation work: maintenance logs, calibration reports, work orders and spare parts stores management
  • Ensuring all work complies with relevant legislation, including Electricity at Work Regulations, IEE Wiring Regulations (BS 7671) and company policies
  • Working on a shift pattern of 6am-2pm and 2pm-10pm, rotating on a weekly basis
The successful Multiskilled Maintenance Technician will demonstrate
  • NVQ Level 3 in Engineering or equivalent
  • Strong mechanical engineering bias with some electrical experience
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Excellent problem-solving and diagnostic skills
  • Ability to work independently and within a team
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
  • Proficiency with electrical drawings and schematics
Desirable but not essential
  • 18th Edition IEE Wiring Regulations (BS 7671)
  • City & Guilds 2391 (Inspection & Testing) or equivalent
  • Demonstrable experience in an electrical and instrumentation role, across multiple sectors including manufacturing, industrial, energy, or related industries
  • Strong knowledge of electrical systems, control systems, and instrumentation technologies
  • Instrumentation certification
  • COMPEX certification
  • Experience working in hazardous environments (ATEX)
  • Familiarity with DCS (Distributed Control Systems)
  • Experience with PLCs, SCADA systems, and automation is advantageous
