Job description
Overview

The Multiskilled Technician (Building & Fabric) is a key operational role within Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust’s Estates and Facilities team, supporting the safe, compliant, and efficient delivery of minor works and building fabric maintenance across the hospital estate. The postholder will be responsible for undertaking and assisting with a range of civil repairs and general building tasks, including plastering, painting, and the fitting of fixtures and fittings, in accordance with statutory regulations, NHS HTM guidance, and Trust service standards. Working under the direction of the Building and Fabric Supervisor, the technician will contribute to both planned and reactive maintenance activities, ensuring that all tasks are completed to a high standard and within agreed timescales. The role requires a foundation in building fabric maintenance, with training provided on Trust procedures and standards.

Responsibilities
  • Undertake a broad range of maintenance tasks across multiple trades, including general building repairs, beyond core electrical, plumbing or mechanical disciplines, ensuring all work is carried out safely and in compliance with relevant legislation, Trust procedures, and Estates Health and Safety protocols.
  • Work from a daily/weekly task list provided by the supervisor, adjusting only with approval.
  • Provide cover for colleagues during periods of absence (e.g. annual leave, sickness, or vacancies) to maintain continuity of service.
  • Carry and respond promptly to estates communication devices (e.g. pagers, radios) to follow instructions for reactive maintenance tasks.
  • Pass information promptly to supervisor and communicate routine information to colleagues and supervisors as directed.
  • Follow instructions for stock usage and reporting to ensure availability and reduce downtime.
  • Receive and complete planned and reactive tasks as directed by management and supervisory colleagues, Helpdesk, or CAFM Administrator(s).
  • Contribute to statutory and regulatory compliance through participation in audits, accurate record-keeping, and adherence to Trust governance frameworks.
  • Engage in continuous professional development to maintain and enhance technical competencies across the estates maintenance remit.
