A leading medical association in London is seeking a Director of Member Relations to lead membership support efforts and oversee important organizational strategies. This role demands extensive leadership experience within a trade union or membership organization. Responsibilities include supporting team members and driving the association’s strategic objectives while fostering collaboration across various levels. Competitive benefits and a supportive working environment are provided.
The British Medical Association (BMA) is the trade union and professional body for doctors and medical students in the UK.
We ensure that doctors and medical students have the resources and support to fight for improvements in the workplace and in medical practice for the benefit of ourselves, our patients and a healthier society.
Join the BMA at a crucial time for doctors and the NHS and be part of a team, working with members, to achieve better pay and conditions for the profession.
We are seeking a Director of Member Relations to lead approximately 200 colleagues in supporting the organisation, training, representation, recruitment and retention of medical students and doctors across England. This role also has oversight of our legal support for member employment cases as well as our membership records, pensions, employer advisory service and support teams.
This is an exciting time to take on this role. In recent years we have supported nationally elected representatives and local members to help the BMA to grow to our highest membership levels, beat ballot turnout records and fight for fair pay and conditions.
The successful candidate will ensure a collaborative approach between the Member Relations Directorate staff and BMA representatives, members, other directorates and across the four UK nations. They will also play a key role as a member of the BMA senior leadership team, delivering the BMA’s newly approved five-year strategy – organising to win, campaigning to influence, enabling success. The appointee will be required to support the implementation of this strategy and the accompanying organisational design work to deliver it.
This is a great opportunity to lead the Directorate; working in co-production with BMA representatives and members to continuously improve the support we provide to doctors and medical students, on an individual and collective basis, at local, regional and national level.
The role profile outlines the current key responsibilities and expectations for the position. The BMA is engaged in an organisation design process to ensure our structure, roles, and ways of working best support our strategic objectives and the needs of our members. The position will remain in the new structure, but responsibilities and scope may change as the association evolves. The BMA is committed to communicating any such changes transparently and supporting colleagues through transitions as part of this process.
We anticipate that interviews will take place w/c 13 October.
