Job description
Overview

We are looking to recruit an experienced Mechanical Fitter to join our clients team in Sheffield. This hands-on role is ideal for a time-served mechanical engineer with experience in heavy industrial maintenance who is looking to apply their skills in a busy production environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain, repair and overhaul plant machinery and mechanical systems including conveyors, mixers, rotary dryers, gearboxes, bearings and drive trains
  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance and emergency breakdown repairs
  • Diagnose faults and contribute to root-cause analysis to improve plant reliability
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records, recommend spare parts and refurbishment plans
  • Work safely to permit-to-work systems and contribute to continuous improvement
Experience & Qualifications

Essential

  • Time-served, apprentice-trained mechanical engineer
  • NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering
  • Experience in heavy industrial maintenance (asphalt, quarrying, aggregates, bulk handling, etc.)
  • Strong knowledge of rotating equipment, hydraulics, pneumatics, conveyors, mixers and gearboxes
  • Full UK Driving Licence

Desirable

  • Experience working on asphalt batching plant or similar production machinery
  • Knowledge of burners, thermal systems and combustion equipment
  • Experience with predictive maintenance techniques (vibration, oil analysis, thermography)

  • Strong fault-finding and practical problem-solving ability
  • Safety-conscious and methodical
  • Able to work under pressure and to production deadlines
  • Team player with good communication skills
  • Willing to learn and develop technically
