Job summary

Qualifications

  • Proven mechanical design experience within the building services sector.
  • Strong understanding of HVAC systems including AC, AHUs, chillers and boilers.
  • Proficiency with design/calculation software (e.g., IES or similar).
  • Good technical knowledge of UK regulations and standards.

Responsibilities

  • Produce detailed mechanical services designs, calculations, thermal modelling and equipment specifications.
  • Coordinate with internal designers, project managers and external consultants.
  • Support design development from concept through to construction stage.

Intermediate Mechanical Design Engineer – HVAC / Building Services

Contract–to–Perm 3–Month Initial Contract Hybrid (Surrey Office)

The Company

A long–established mechanical services contractor with over 40 years' experience is seeking an Intermediate Mechanical Design Engineer to join their expanding design team. The business is recognised for its technical capability, supportive culture and varied commercial workload across refurbishments and fit–outs.

The Role

You will be responsible for delivering mechanical building services designs across systems such as boilers, chillers, AHUs and air–conditioning. Working within a collaborative team, you'll contribute from early concept through detailed design and construction support, ensuring compliance, performance and seamless integration across each project.

Key Responsibilities
  • Produce detailed mechanical services designs, calculations, thermal modelling and equipment specifications
  • Coordinate with internal designers, project managers and external consultants
  • Support design development from concept through to construction stage
  • Ensure compliance with UK building regulations, industry standards and sustainability objectives (energy efficiency, low carbon performance)
Package / Contract Details
  • Contract–to–Perm role – 3‑month initial contract
  • 200– 300 per day (depending on experience)
  • Hybrid working – based from the Surrey office with flexibility
