Role Overview
We are seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to develop, sustain, and improve access control products at high volume. The role involves product development, cost reduction, and collaboration across mechanical and electrical design teams.
Essential Duties
- Own mechanical design and development of physical access readers and controllers.
- Collaborate with product management to confirm product requirements for allocated projects.
- Manage independent tasks and investigate customer issues related to readers and controllers.
- Assist with sustaining and VAVE tasks – cost down investigations, production efficiencies, and feature improvements on current products.
- Research and implement alternative components and solutions to support contract manufacture and supply chain.
- Participate in high‑level solution discussions covering architecture, technology, and design.
- Act as subject‑matter expert for mechanical engineering.
Primary Duties
- Design and develop mechanical housings and accessories – plastic and metal.
- Work alongside electrical design colleagues to develop mechanical solutions.
- Collaborate with the wider design team for design‑for‑manufacture.
- Collaborate with tool makers and contract manufacturers.
- Perform mechanical engineering test and validation on prototypes.
- Support the design validation group with final product testing and compliance.
Preferred Qualifications
- Degree in Engineering or related subject with 5–10 years of engineering experience.
- Other qualifications and experience will be considered.
Essential Skills
- High proficiency in SolidWorks 3D CAD.
- 2D engineering and assembly drawings using SolidWorks.
- Highly knowledgeable in plastic injection molding and tooling (overmolding, 200–3,000 KG).
- Good working knowledge of metal component manufacturing (sheet and cast).
- Good knowledge of plastic and metal materials.
- 2–3 years of experience in medium to high volume mass production.
Desirable Knowledge and Skills
- Up to date knowledge of modern injection molding technologies.
- Working knowledge of fabrication (machining, ultrasonic welding, etc).
- Simulation tools (Moldflow, thermal, stress).
- Basic knowledge of RFID, wireless technologies.
- Strong communication skills and ability to communicate across seniority levels.
- Proficient in MS Office applications.
- Document control (engineering changes, Agile PLM).
- Collaboration tools (Confluence, Wiki).

- International travel may be required; a valid passport is necessary.
