Job description

We are looking for a skilled Marketing Manager, Open Access and Author Marketing to join our Health Research Marketing Team. Working closely with colleagues in Product Marketing, Product Management, Central Marketing, and others as needed, the Marketing Manager, Open Access and Author Marketing owns and leads the marketing for a portfolio of fully open access journals. The role is responsible for developing sophisticated marketing strategies independently, leading the creation of multi‑channel marketing plans with partner teams, overseeing their successful execution, and is accountable for meeting campaign goals. In addition, this role also supports other programs and projects and leads key initiatives that enable submissions growth across the journals open access portfolio and plays a key role in generating opportunities in the dynamic open access market.

What You’ll Be Doing:
  • Manage and optimize high‑impact digital marketing initiatives.
  • Oversee the creation and distribution of advanced marketing content.
  • Coordinate large‑scale events and promotional activities.
  • Collaborate with senior stakeholders to align marketing strategies with business objectives.
  • Maintain and optimize the marketing technology stack.
  • Ensure compliance with marketing regulations and standards.
  • Provide expert advice and guidance to marketing teams on best practices.
  • Segmentation, Targeting & Positioning: work with the Associate Director, Open Access and Author Marketing and key stakeholder groups, such as Publishing and Sales, to support the annual marketing planning process, leading market sizing and current penetration mapping, running competitive analysis, identifying profitable customer targets, setting objectives, and establishing positioning for key segments.
  • Data‑Driven Customer Insights: initiate and use in‑depth market and behavior analysis to glean insights to inform campaigns and author outreach strategies.
  • Strategize Marketing Campaigns: own and lead the development of complex and sophisticated integrated marketing campaign strategies across the full author journey to raise awareness of Lippincott open access journals and drive submissions and achieve growth targets.
  • Campaign Implementation: manage campaign rollouts, ensuring timely execution with our partners in the Central Marketing group and lead campaign optimization.
  • Campaign Measurement and MROI: own campaign effectiveness measurement, including the creation of both regular and ad‑hoc campaign analyses and reports reviewing the effectiveness and impact of current marketing initiatives. Use insights to develop campaign optimization decisions and recommendations and assess MROI.
  • Stakeholder Alignment: collaborate with senior stakeholders to align marketing strategies with wider business objectives and strategies and regularly share updates on marketing plans, campaign progress, results and future optimization.
  • Mentorship: support junior team members providing clear guidance and fostering a culture of sharing and learning.
Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, business, or a relevant field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Proven ability to develop sophisticated marketing strategies for large, complex organizations that drive positive outcomes.
  • Extensive experience in crafting campaigns across various platforms to maximize reach and engagement.
  • Experience in managing diverse groups of stakeholders to gain buy‑in and drive alignment on priorities.
  • Previous experience managing a budget, including allocating promo spend to achieve targets and monitoring spend to ensure campaigns are delivered on budget and meet MROI requirements.
  • Experience in positioning specialized products to align with market needs and opportunities.
  • Demonstrable experience managing relationships with high‑value clients, delivering marketing plans that are aligned to both client and business need.
Skills:
  • Strong understanding of digital marketing channels and how to craft successful marketing strategies based on campaign objectives.
  • Knowledge of medical research publishing and the wider research eco‑system.
  • Demonstrable understanding of journal publishing and Open Access.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Solid time‑management and prioritization skills.
  • Good with Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.
