Thrive Oldham is recruiting on behalf of a well-established client in the Torfaen area for a Manual Machinist.

Job Description

We are seeking a Machinist/Trainee Machinist to join our facility in South Wales. The main responsibility of this role is to work as part of a team to process products through the Machine Shop, ensuring they are produced right first time and delivered to customer specifications.

Principle Accountabilities:

  • Work as part of a team to meet departmental KPIs such as Right First Time, On Time In Full, and Productivity.
  • Operate manual vertical turning lathes and CNC vertical and horizontal turning lathes following standard operating procedures.
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings to ensure product conformity to specifications.
  • Set tooling as required.
  • Record key data daily, including production throughput, non-conformance notes, and dimensional reports, using relevant systems such as EFACS.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement activities like daily TPM and 5S.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Willingness to learn and follow instructions.
  • High motivation and determination to succeed.
  • GCSEs or equivalent in Maths and English.
  • Good interpersonal skills and team working ability.
  • Attention to detail and good communication skills.

Preferred experience includes:

  • Experience in heavy manufacturing.
  • Manual machining (manual and CNC).
  • Reading and interpreting 2D engineering drawings.
  • Familiarity with machining special alloys.
  • Programming experience.
  • FANUC control system experience.

Work hours are currently:

  • 5:30-1:30 Mon to Thurs, 5:30-10:30 Fri
  • or 14:00-22:30 Mon to Thurs, 10:30-15:30 Fri

Future shift pattern changes to 3 shifts. This is a permanent role.
