Manager / Associate Principal, Life Sciences Strategy 2026

Blue Matter is a rapidly growing strategic consulting firm serving clients in the life sciences industry. Our project types include new product planning, launch strategy, portfolio planning and disease area strategy. The majority of our work is in specialty therapeutics, with oncology and rare diseases as specific areas of expertise.

What you will do:

As a Manager / Associate Principal , you will manage a Blue Matter project team to develop creative solutions to our clients’ problems. This process usually starts by working directly with our clients to understand and define the problem, and developing insights into an impactful and actionable recommendation.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Deliver and manage cross-functional projects across multiple areas of expertise, including product commercialization and launch, portfolio and product strategy, and organizational strategy and excellence
  • Support project leadership in the development of project objectives; develop and manage project plans
  • Identify required project tasks, assist project leads in assigning tasks to team members, and demonstrate accountability for ensuring task completion
  • Design, execute, analyze and synthesize primary and secondary research efforts
  • Identify key insights, recommendations, opportunities, and threats to inform corporate and commercial strategies
  • Regularly engage senior-level clients
  • Recruit, develop and manage top talent
  • Support new business acquisition

At Blue Matter we look for Managers / Associate Principals that can hit the ground running to manage projects (and teams) and are scientifically trained (either by experience or academic accomplishments), have consulting experience at the manager-level, and have a solid base across all of the following competencies, which are:

  • Critical Thinker - be able to approach a problem and understand its context and implications and work with ambiguous information to develop content that informs decisions and strategic trade-off s
  • Program Planner - be able to effectively scope project, manage project plan and delegate work accordingly
  • Strategic Partner - act as thought partner to clients by being a credible, reliable partner that challenges thinking and enhances outcomes by challenging status quo
  • Mentor - A strong people engager/facilitator that effectively mentors or coaches consultants and helps guide their professional development
Minimum Qualifications
  • Manager: 4+ years of life sciences consulting experience
  • Associate Principal: 6+ years of life sciences consulting experience
  • Advanced degree(s) (PhD, MD, MBA, or MS) preferred
Desired Experience and Skills (M)
  • Management consulting expertise and experience in new product commercialization, product launch, product strategy, and organizational strategy and excellence
  • Prior experience in specialty therapeutic areas: Oncology, Immunology, Neurology, Rare Diseases
  • High-quality deliverable development, and impactful presentation to clients
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and foster motivated and highly capable project teams
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

  • Demonstrated ability to be a strategic thought partner to clients
  • Ability to deliver on multiple overlapping priorities, ability to deliver at scale (or sth like this)
  • Can challenge client team thinking based on extensive experience and bring in subject matter expertise for personal areas of strength/interest (e.g., access, go to market, etc.
