Job description
The Company

We are looking to procure an experienced Maintenance Plumber to join an award-winning Group Company based on the outskirts of Exeter. Their family of businesses invest in projects fostering social, environmental, and economic prosperity and they are committed to sustainability and minimal environmental impact.

The Group owns and manages a large and diverse portfolio of buildings across the Exeter area from innovative new commercial offices and energy-efficient eco workplaces to Grade 2 listed buildings, Holiday homes and Lodges. Their Building and Property division that manages this portfolio for the group is looking for an experienced Maintenance Plumber to join their happy team.

About the Role

Predominantly based on a single site (95% of the time) they are seeking an experienced and proactive Maintenance Plumber for a hands-on role requiring a balance of plumbing/mechanical expertise and practical, general maintenance skills, ensuring their properties are safe, functional, and efficient. In addition to technical tasks, you will muck in with the team with general repairs when required.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plumbing & Mechanical Repairs and Maintenance: Perform routine and reactive plumbing and mechanical work, including installations, repairs, fault finding, and system maintenance to a professional standard.
  • General Repairs and Maintenance: Handle a range of non-plumbing tasks, such as basic carpentry, painting, and minor repairs, as required.
  • Routine Inspections: Carry out routine inspections of plumbing systems, safety devices, and general property conditions, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Urgent Response: Respond swiftly to urgent maintenance requests, whether plumbing, mechanical or general, and prioritise effectively to minimise disruption.
  • On-Call Responsibility: Participate in a shared on-call rota with the maintenance team, providing prompt response and support for urgent building issues outside of regular working hours.
  • Lifting and Shifting: Assist with the movement of furniture, equipment, and other items as part of maintenance or improvement projects.
  • Improvement Works: Participate in small-scale improvement projects, including upgrades and installations, ensuring quality and efficiency.
  • Tool Maintenance: Maintain tools, equipment, and supplies in good working order, ensuring readiness for use.
About You
  • Qualified Plumber/Mechanical: You hold relevant plumbing and mechanical qualifications (e.g. NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Plumbing, Gas Safety, City & Guilds) and have experience performing plumbing work to a high standard in compliance with safety regulations.
  • Diverse Portfolio Experience: You have a minimum of 5 years working across a variety of property types, including commercial offices, residential buildings, and mixed-use facilities.
  • General Maintenance Skills: You are proficient and happy in performing non-plumbing and mechanical maintenance tasks, such as basic carpentry, painting, and minor repairs.
  • Proactive and Adaptable: You approach tasks with a solution-focused mindset, can prioritise effectively, and are comfortable adapting to changing needs and unexpected situations.
  • Problem-Solver: You have strong analytical skills to diagnose issues quickly and resolve them efficiently.
  • Safety-Conscious: You have a thorough understanding of health and safety protocols and always prioritise a safe working environment.
  • Physically Capable: You are able to handle manual tasks such as lifting, shifting, and working in various conditions (e.g., confined spaces or outdoor environments).

This is a dynamic role that combines technical plumbing and mechanical work with practical, hands-on maintenance tasks, ideal for someone who enjoys variety and takes pride in ensuring properties are safe, functional, and well-maintained.
