Overview

Maintenance Officer – Redwell Hills Care Home, St Ives Rd, Leadgate, Consett DH8 7SN. Full Time – 35h/week. £13 per hour. Harbour Healthcare are recruiting for a Maintenance Officer in Consett. Your role is to ensure all legal documents are completed, perform day-to-day maintenance on the fabric of the building, its services and grounds, and maintain the Care Centre in a safe and efficient functional order. You will be on call for emergencies only.

Skills, Knowledge & Qualifications

Required:

  • General maintenance knowledge / experience (e.g., minor electrical, plumbing, joinery).
  • Good communication skills
  • Confident team player
  • Clean driving licence
  • Ability to use a car or similar vehicle
  • Willingness to receive training on Health & Safety / EHO issues
  • Satisfactory Police check and check against the POVA List (where applicable)

Desired:

  • Understanding of central heating systems, laundry equipment and hot & cold water systems
  • Knowledge of current Health & Safety regulations
Main Responsibilities

General Maintenance:

  • Ensure ALL Legal documentation is completed on time.
  • Report and action any known defects to appliances, damaged furniture / equipment and any other potential hazards to the Home Manager.
  • Maintain the Care Centre’s exterior, including sheds, outbuildings and waste areas; clear snow and grit driveways and access routes; maintain external gardens and lighting.
  • Carry out patching up or touching up of decoration as required to maintain standards.
  • Test the fire alarm system weekly and log results; check call points, fire exits, door retaining devices and emergency lights as per Company procedures.
  • Keep ventilation units and lights clean; replace defective bulbs/diffusers.
  • Test all portable appliances as per Company procedures; test and record water temperatures as specified.
  • Maintain a Maintenance Book to record defects reported by staff and use it to effect repairs/replacements daily.
  • Assist/supervise deliveries to the Care Centre and monitor delivered goods.

Communication:

  • Liaise with the Home Manager or delegated staff member regarding maintenance work.
  • Participate in staff and client meetings as required.

Training & Development:

  • Attend mandatory training days/courses on or off site as required.
  • Maintain professional knowledge and competence.

Health & Safety:

  • Use and store paints and varnishes according to manufacturers’ instructions; ensure painting areas are well ventilated and safe for clients, visitors and staff.
  • Report any illness or accident involving a client, colleague, self or another immediately.
  • Understand and implement the Care Centre’s Health and Safety policy, and Emergency and Fire procedures; promote safe working practices.
