Working Hours : Monday to Friday | 06:00 – 18:00
Pay Rate : Starting from £15.00 per hour

Our client, a well-established recycling and waste management operator, is currently recruiting for a skilled Mechanical Fitter / Maintenance Engineer to join their busy site in Hartlepool. This is a temp-to-perm opportunity, offering long-term stability and progression for the right candidate.

Role Overview

The successful candidate will be responsible for carrying out mechanical maintenance, repairs, and fault finding on plant and machinery to ensure smooth and efficient site operations. This is a hands‑on role within a fast‑paced industrial environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Carry out planned and reactive mechanical maintenance on site machinery
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical faults to minimise downtime
  • Perform routine inspections and preventative maintenance
  • Support installation and modification of plant and equipment
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records
  • Work closely with site management and production teams
  • Ensure tools and work areas are kept clean and safe
Health & Safety
  • Work in line with all site health, safety, and environmental procedures
  • Follow lock‑off and isolation procedures
  • Report hazards, near misses, and incidents promptly
  • Ensure safe systems of work are followed at all times
Candidate Requirements

Essential

  • Previous experience as a Mechanical Fitter or Maintenance Engineer
  • Background in recycling, waste, manufacturing, or heavy industrial environments
  • Strong mechanical fault‑finding skills
  • Ability to read and understand basic engineering drawings
  • Good understanding of health and safety procedures

Desirable

  • Welding or fabrication experience
  • Experience working on conveyors, shredders, or processing machinery
  • Relevant mechanical qualifications
