Job summary

A leading food manufacturing company based in Slough is seeking a Maintenance Engineer to join their high-performing engineering team. This position focuses on planned preventative maintenance and supporting production through effective maintenance. The ideal candidate will have a recognised engineering qualification, at least 5 years of experience, and strong electrical and mechanical fault-finding skills. The role is night-based, working on a shift pattern of 4 on 4 off, and offers a competitive salary of £50,000.

Qualifications

Maintenance Engineer
Salary: £50,000
Location: Slough
Shift Pattern: 4 on 4 off, 6pm-6am (Nights)

We are currently recruiting for a Maintenance Engineer to join a successful and well-established food manufacturing business based in Slough. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Maintenance Engineer to work nights within a high-performing engineering team, supporting production through effective maintenance and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities
  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance to minimise downtime and improve equipment reliability
  • Diagnose and repair electrical and mechanical faults on production machinery
  • Respond quickly and effectively to breakdowns to reduce production impact
  • Perform routine servicing, maintenance and fitting of new parts
  • Identify root causes of failures and implement long‑term corrective actions
  • Calibrate and check instruments to ensure accuracy and compliance
  • Communicate effectively with production teams, engineers and managers across shifts
  • Complete all engineering documentation and shift reports accurately
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and lean manufacturing activities
  • Recommend and implement plant and process improvements to improve efficiency, quality and throughput
  • Work across different areas of the bakery as required
Qualifications and Experience
  • Recognised engineering qualification
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in a Maintenance Engineer role
  • Strong electrical and mechanical fault‑finding skills
  • Good understanding of engineering drawings and principles
  • PLC experience within a bakery or food manufacturing environment is essential
  • Strong awareness of HSE standards and safe working practices
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team on a night shift pattern
