Position Summary

Machine Learning Engineer to join the AI Research Team at Samsung. Samsung Research and Development Institute, UK (SRUK) conducts cutting-edge applied research on the foundations and challenges of artificial intelligence (AI) to develop state-of-the-art solutions for real-world large-scale problems. The department disseminates research outputs in local and international research communities through seminars, top-tier conferences, and journals. Successful candidates will work on diverse AI fields, including machine learning, deep learning, and computer vision, as part of the AI Research Team. This is an outsourced contract role working via one of our preferred recruitment agencies on an hourly rate. We are looking for someone to join ASAP and the contract will run until 31st Dec 2025.

Role and Responsibilities

As a forward-thinking company, we seek individuals passionate about pushing the boundaries of AI:

  • Conduct cutting-edge research to develop state-of-the-art solutions or propose novel challenges based on real-world case studies in AI.
  • Develop high-quality code with detailed documentation to support reproducible research in AI, focusing on computer vision, image processing, and deep learning models.
  • Review state-of-the-art research papers and create prototype solutions.
  • Publish in top-tier conferences and journals, such as NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR, EMNLP, CVPR, ICCV, ECCV, AAAI, ACL, IEEE TPAMI, IEEE TNNLS, IJCV, and JMLR.
Skills and Qualifications

Required Skills

  • Pursuing a PhD or holding a PhD in ML/AI, Computer Science/Engineering, or related disciplines.
  • Proficiency in mathematics (calculus, probability, statistics, linear algebra, optimization) and computer science (algorithms, data structures, parallel/distributed computing).
  • Strong fundamentals in Machine Learning, Computer Vision, and Deep Learning.
  • Hands-on experience in at least one of the following areas:
    • Differential privacy and its applications.
    • Model conversion and inferring AI models in trusted execution environments.
    • Model inversion and data reconstruction attacks.
    • Integration of AI models in privacy settings.
  • First-author publications in top ML/AI conferences/journals (e.g., ICML, NeurIPS, ICLR, CVPR, ECCV, IEEE TPAMI, AAAI).
  • Experience in Linux environments.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Java, or C++.
  • Experience with machine learning libraries like PyTorch, SciKit, NumPy.
  • Excellent communication skills, teamwork abilities, and a results-oriented attitude.
  • Proficiency in problem-solving and debugging.
Desirable Skills
  • Expertise in data/model privacy.
  • Knowledge of trusted execution environments.
  • Knowledge of image/video/natural language generation and discrimination tasks.
  • Professional software development experience with C++ or Python.
  • Experience in computer graphics and rendering for visualization.
Work Location

The role is based at the Samsung R&D Institute in Staines-upon-Thames, Surrey, UK. A hybrid working policy allows a maximum of 2 days a week to be worked from home for most roles.
