Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust is seeking to appoint a substantive Consultant in Knee Surgery to join our expanding Trauma & Orthopaedics Department.
This is a replacement, whole-time post designed to meet increasing elective and semi-elective knee demand alongside delivery of a safe and sustainable trauma service.
You will join a department of 24 Orthopaedic Consultants, supported by registrars, SAS doctors, advanced practitioners, extended-scope physiotherapists, and a dedicated orthogeriatric service. The Trust delivers approximately 1,200 hip and knee arthroplasties per year and runs established Virtual Fracture Clinics, lower limb arthroplasty MDTs, and enhanced recovery pathways.

The department is a recognised training centre for Trauma & Orthopaedics with regular involvement in teaching medical students (Birmingham & Warwick), core trainees and higher surgical trainees. Participation in audit, quality improvement and undergraduate/postgraduate teaching is expected.

The post is suitable for candidates with fellowship training in knee soft tissue reconstruction and joint preservation. Candidates within 6 months of CCT or returning from fellowship are welcome to apply; mentorship and phased development for revision will be supported. Those with interests in research, simulation, teaching or innovation (digital health, PROMs, pathway redesign) are particularly encouraged.
The successful candidate will provide:
Weekly elective knee clinic sessions at Alexandra Hospital Redditch.
A dedicated knee theatre list at Alexandra, with opportunities for dual consultant operating and mentoring where required.
A day-case lower limb list for arthroscopy and soft tissue knee surgery.
Office accommodation and secretarial support are provided. The post attracts 10 PAs, with opportunities to negotiate SPA, research or leadership components.
Full GMC registration with a licence to practise is required.
Those trained in the UK must have CCT or be within 6 months of confirmed entry to the GMC Specialist Register at the time of interview. CESR applicants will be considered for a locum post if not yet on the specialist register.

A suitably experienced post-holder will be expected to provide aclinical service in the relevant specialty to patients of the WorcestershireAcute Hospitals NHS Trust and toGeneral Practitioners. The post includes.
The post-holder will be expected to provide a service topatients of the Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust, General Practitionersand to attend multi-disciplinary meetings. The successful candidate will beexpected to work within multi-disciplinary teams in providing high qualityclinical care. It is anticipated work will be undertaken on three sites andcloser to the patients home. TheTrust is seeking to extend services to GP surgeries/health centres etc and jobplans may be revised in due course.
The post-holder will provide support to the A&E departmentand acute medicine to ensure timelyappropriate care and patient flow through the hospital.
The post-holder will provide consultation and advisory serviceto clinical colleagues in the Trust and Primary Care.
The post-holder will attend cross county and cross site meetings. As the service is delivered across multiple sites, traveltime between locations will be recognised within the job plan. Cross-site coverarrangements will ensure patient safety, with clear lines of responsibility forinpatients and emergency cover.
The post-holder will collaborate with colleagues to deliver a high quality, timely service andto work towards meeting the Trusts anddepartmental objectives.
The post-holder will, if relevant, participate in the on callrota to ensure that both emergency and urgent servicesare provided out of normal hours, to be shared equally withConsultant colleagues in post.
The Trust would expect a consultant whilst undertaking on-callduties to attend the hospital site to review patientswhen clinically necessary. The consultant on call must be prepared toattend willingly whenever requested to do so by a member of their medical andnursing team.
This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.
