Overview

This post is an important part of our ongoing development of medical services at East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust, offering the successful applicant the opportunity to work closely with the existing Stroke physicians to provide a high standard of care across the Trust. We are seeking a locum consultant with enthusiasm, commitment, and drive to work closely with colleagues throughout the organisation and within the community to help lead the organisation.

This is an excellent opportunity within the Stroke department at East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust. The department has just been designated a hub (HASU) and will progress from receiving around seven hundred attendances per annum to around eleven hundred.

Responsibilities
  • Maintenance of high-quality patient centered care.
  • Shared responsibility for the day-to-day management of the service and participation in strategic planning.
  • Teaching and training within the multidisciplinary service.
  • Active involvement in multidisciplinary team meetings and directorate clinical governance activity.
  • Active participation in continuing medical education.

Qualifications / Training
  • Essential: Full GMC registration with a licence to practice
  • Essential: College Membership (MRCP) or qualification of an equivalent level
  • Essential: Advanced Life Support or demonstration of ability to achieve ALS immediately upon appointment

Desirable: Postgraduate academic degree; College Fellowship

Previous Experience
  • Essential: Broad range of experience in Stroke Medicine (GIM, Geriatric Medicine, Neurology, Acute and Hyperacute Stroke)
  • Essential: Fully competent in Stroke Thrombolysis; delivered thrombolysis to a minimum of 20 patients
  • Essential: Experience of supervising undergraduates, doctors in training, and other colleagues
  • Essential: Ability to offer and be accountable for full and independent expert diagnostic opinion
  • Essential: Evidence of leading on patient safety issues and achieving changes in practice
  • Essential: Published papers and original work in peer reviewed journals
  • Essential: Understanding of audit, evidence-based practice, and clinical quality improvement initiatives
  • Essential: Demonstrable experience and participation in research
Skills
  • Able to evidence engagement with clinical governance and the identification of errors and the learning from errors
  • Evidence of engagement with appraisal and revalidation
