Responsibilities

  • Achieve minimum standard of 125 surgical cases per surgeon.
  • Participate in paediatric cardiothoracic and ECMO on call rotas.
  • Help ensure stability of service delivery for surgery and ECMO.
  • Participate in audit activities relevant to congenital cardiac surgery.
  • Sustain and develop teaching and research with the University of Leicester.
  • Develop services for congenital heart disease in the East Midlands.
  • Supervise and train junior medical staff in congenital surgery.
  • Deliver the NHSE Congenital Heart Disease Standards & Specifications.
  • Encourage a multidisciplinary approach to patient treatment.
Job description
Responsibilities
  • Achieve the minimum standard of 125 surgical cases per surgeon as set out in the NHSE service specifications.
  • Participate in the paediatric cardiothoracic and ECMO on call rota's at a frequency of 1 in 4.
  • Help ensure stability of service delivery for both surgery and ECMO.
  • Participate in and instigate audit activities within the directorate relevant to congenital cardiac surgery, or ECMO.
  • Sustain and develop teaching and research in conjunction with the University of Leicester, and participate in and fulfil the requirements of the Royal College of Surgeons CPD scheme.
  • Continue to develop services for children and adults with congenital heart disease in the East Midlands, working with the existing team of paediatric and adult congenital cardiologists, surgeons, intensivists and anaesthetists.
  • Work closely with our partners at network centres team to ensure communication is timely and efficient.
  • Supervise and train junior medical staff in all aspects of congenital surgery.
  • Help deliver the NHSE Congenital Heart Disease Standards & Specifications.
  • Encourage a multidisciplinary approach to the treatment of patients.
  • Share responsibility with colleagues for the day‑to‑day management of patients.
  • Actively participate in departmental and Trust matters concerning Clinical Governance and audit.
  • Maintain the highest standard in accordance with GMC Good Medical Practice, respond to legitimate Trust officer requests, participate in multidisciplinary case conferences, and undertake teaching and training of junior staff.
