A leading teaching hospital in the UK is looking for a Consultant in Breast Surgery to join their multi-disciplinary team. Responsibilities include providing high-quality patient care, educational roles, and participation in clinical governance. Ideal candidates will have significant experience in Breast surgery, leadership capabilities, and a strong educational background. The position is based at Denmark Hill, with the potential for teaching and research opportunities.
This is a Consultant post. The remit of the postholder will be to work within the multi-disciplinary team providing and further developing care for Breast service, and to provide and develop acute surgical emergency services to the Trust's patients. The individual will be required to play an active role in the general workload of the Care Group while having a significant commitment to teaching and training of junior staff. The post will be based at Denmark Hill and the proposed Job Plan (up to 10 PAs) is attached. This is subject to review within 3 months of the postholder commencing in post. All employees are expected to undertake work on any of the Trust's sites as required by the service. As a senior employee of the Trust, you will work in close co-operation with, and support other clinical, medical professional and managerial colleagues in providing high quality healthcare to the Trust's patients.
Integral to these responsibilities are the following: the provision of a first-class clinical service; effective leadership to all staff engaged in the specialty; sustaining and developing teaching and research in conjunction with King\'s College London / KHP; undertaking all work in accordance with the Trust\'s procedures and operating policies; conducting clinical practice in accordance with contractual requirements and within the parameters of the Trust\'s service plans.

Kings Breast Care has been established as a single clinical entity for over 20 years. The department was initially set up to combine surgery and oncology, but now includes Gynae, Endocrine, Plastic Reconstruction, Psychiatric and Psychological liaison, Breast screening assessment, Day Surgery pre-assessment and Physiotherapy. At Denmark Hill (DH) site the unit is co-located with the Screening Assessment Unit for the NHSBSP in SE London. At present we manage 380 breast cancers a year, with 4928 patients seen as new referrals in the last year. The department has developed and become National leaders in Day Surgery for non-reconstructive surgery. Our interests are increasing to cover fatigue management, targeted follow up and formal social assessments. We have three breast care nurses who provide support and counselling to women with breast problems for all benign to metastatic breast cancer, with a newly appointed metastatic nurse. The budgetary and management structure of Kings College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is divided into Care Groups. Colorectal Surgery is part of the General Surgery Care Group which comprises General Surgery, Upper GI Surgery and Bariatrics, Endocrine Surgery, Emergency Surgery and Breast Surgery. The Care Group has five wards together with supporting diagnostic and outpatient facilities dedicated to Surgery.
