Job description

The successful candidates will be responsible along with others for the day‑to‑day supervision of children in the two Paediatric Wards, Labour Ward, Neonatal Unit and the Post‑Natal Ward. They will liaise with nursing, medical and para‑medical colleagues to facilitate the smooth running of the service and will be expected to keep senior colleagues appraised of problems which arise. The Doctor responsible will carry out checks on all newborn babies and perform examinations prior to discharge. Depending upon the needs of the individual and the service requirement, the Trust Grade Doctor will be encouraged to attend as many Outpatient Clinics as possible under the supervision of the Consultant. They will arrange admissions and prepare discharge summaries as appropriate. To ensure that records of patients in your care are accurate, up to date and legible (stamps are issued for this purpose and must be used). They will supervise the work of doctors in training and other staff as directed commensurate with the grade, participating in their training as required and as appropriate. The Paediatric Department has extensive guidelines and there is close middle grade and consultant support. Each Specialty Registrar has a designated supervising Consultant with regular appraisals.

Locally Employed F2 in Paediatrics | University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust, The University Hospitals of Derby and Burton are looking for enthusiastic Locally Employed Foundation Year 2 Doctors in Paediatrics at Queens Hospital in Burton on Trent. This is a great opportunity for two doctors to be appointed on a full‑time, 4‑month fixed‑term contract commencing 3rd December 2025 until 31st March 2026. An opportunity has arisen for these appointments to join our team on a 4‑month fixed‑term post, to experience paediatrics on the wards, in the emergency department and the post‑natal wards. This post is for someone with an interest in paediatrics who has completed their foundation years training or equivalent. This is a locally employed position and is not recognised for training. However, whilst in post you will be afforded the same training opportunities as substantive doctors in post. An active educational programme is operated in the Medical Educational Centre and within the various departments. Every month there is a hospital Educational Half Day in the Medical Education Centre. One educational half day every six months is reserved for junior doctors' presentation.
