Job description

Our client is seeking a Litigation Lawyer to join their dynamic and busy Local Authority in-house Legal Team.

The role

We are looking for an experienced Litigation Lawyer to undertake a varied caseload of legal work. The role will report to and be supervised by a Senior Lawyer. Depending on the requirements of the Senior Lawyer, you will undertake litigation and prosecution work as necessary.

The post holder will handle, under supervision, a varied caseload of criminal and civil litigation matters, and judicial review cases. You will be required to advise, conduct negotiations, undertake drafting, and attend meetings relevant to the role.

You may also advise Members and Officers and undertake all contentious proceedings where appropriate, specifically civil and criminal matters. Occasional attendance at Licensing Committees and advising Members and Officers in relation to these may be required.

Candidates must have experience in at least 3 of the following 7 areas:

  • Homelessness
  • Prosecutions
  • Licensing
  • Education
  • Litigation
  • No recourse to public funds

While familiarity with the Local Authority environment is an advantage, we consider applicants from private practice backgrounds wishing to transfer their skills into the public sector.

Location

The successful Litigation Lawyer is required to attend the office at least 2 days per week.
