Overview

Job Summary: The primary role for the Lifeguard position is to ensure the safety of visitors to Celebration Key. The lifeguard will explain safety rules to patrons, warn them about unsafe situations, and enforce safety policies. Lifeguards will assess situations swiftly, make decisions about the safety of swimmers, and perform rescue skills with a team of lifeguards. This position reports to the Lifeguard Supervisor, Celebration Key.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Lifeguard is responsible for, but not limited to the following:

  • Pass all necessary skills during annual renewal of the (SGE) license.
  • Skills include CPR, First Aid Rescue and Emergency Management Systems (EMS).
  • Maintain constant surveillance of patrons in the lifeguard swim areas at Princess Cays and ensure safety procedures, guidelines and policies are followed.
  • Warn of unsafe activities and enforce water safety policies and beach/pool regulations.
  • Provide first aid in the event of injury, rescue swimmers in danger or distress and administer CPR or artificial respiration if necessary.
  • Inspecting all beach/pool equipment, facilities, and water to ensure they are usable and safe.
  • Uphold environmental policies and procedures.
  • Assist in cleaning equipment and facilities.
  • Open and close the beach/pool each day, depending on schedule and hours.
  • Clean the beach/pool at the end of the ship day according to supervisor’s instructions.
  • Attend all meetings and training sessions provided by Celebration Key.
  • Participate in in-house service trainings to maintain the skills needed to perform rescues.
  • Report all work-related incidents, injuries and illnesses, hazards and any unsafe behaviors or conditions to the Lifeguard Supervisor.
  • Responsible for bringing guarding equipment out each morning and returning it at the end of each day.
  • Act in a professional, safe manner at all times.
  • Maintain good housekeeping standards to keep work areas clean and tidy.
  • Do not interfere with or minimize anything provided in the interest of worker health and safety.
  • Perform miscellaneous job-related or non-job-related duties as assigned.
  • Take reasonable care of own health and safety.
  • Other duties assigned by Management.
EDUCATION & QUALIFICATIONS
  • High school diploma or equivalent; additional education or certification in lifeguarding preferred.
  • Minimum of 1-2 years of experience as a lifeguard preferred, but not required.
  • Guest-facing customer service experience.
SKILLS & SPECIFICATIONS
  • Strong knowledge of lifeguard techniques, water safety protocols, and emergency response procedures.
  • Excellent observation skills, physical fitness, and the ability to remain alert for extended periods.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with a focus on providing excellent guest service.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment practical skills test in the water.
  • Ability to work on weekends and evenings.
  • Swimming skills and comfort in all kinds of water conditions.
  • Ability to evaluate and judge changing dynamics of people participating in aquatic activities to determine their strengths, weaknesses, and threats to safety.
  • In-depth knowledge of safety policies, on-site protocols, and operational procedures.
  • In-depth knowledge of techniques and methods for providing medical services in an emergency.
LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS
  • Ability to speak English clearly, distinctly, and cordially with employees and guests.
  • Ability to read and write English to understand and interpret written procedures; ability to give and receive instructions in written and verbal forms and to present information and respond to questions from guests, managers, and co-workers.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Must be physically fit.
  • Must have strong customer service skills.
  • Ability to work in an outdoor environment.
  • Ability to multi-task and think critically.
  • Previous work experience preferred.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
  • Prolonged periods standing and working outdoors.
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds at times.
  • All island employees must be physically able to participate in emergency lifesaving procedures and drills. Full use/range of motion of arms and legs as well as full visual, verbal and hearing abilities are required to receive and give instructions in the event of an emergency.
