ReeVR Talent is proud to exclusively partner with Linkam Scientific Instruments, a world leader in the design, development and manufacture of advanced scientific instrumentation, who are now hiring a Lead Software Engineer to head up their Software function.

Linkam Scientific Instruments design and manufacture precision sample characterisation solutions used by some of the world’s most advanced scientific organisations. Their instruments help researchers analyse materials ranging from polymers and composites to metals and biological tissue.

All products are designed and built in-house by expert electronics, software and mechanical engineers, working closely with leading scientists across the globe. With sites in Salfords (UK) and The Netherlands, Linkam supports a truly international customer base while maintaining a close-knit, engineering-led culture.

The role

As Lead Software Engineer, you will take ownership of Linkam’s software platforms, leading a skilled Software Team to deliver production-quality software used to control instruments and capture critical scientific data.

You’ll remain hands‑on in development while also providing technical leadership, working across the full software development lifecycle in an Agile environment. The role offers variety, technical depth and the chance to influence both new feature development and legacy systems.

Core technologies include C# and C, operating within a robust, source‑controlled codebase.

Key responsibilities
  • Lead and manage the Software Team within an Agile development environment
  • Deliver software across the full SDLC, from concept through to release and support
  • Design, develop and test new functionality for Linkam’s software platforms
  • Maintain and improve existing and legacy software products
  • Ensure solutions are well‑structured, testable and production‑ready
  • Investigate, diagnose and resolve software bugs
  • Support customer technical queries where required
  • Deliver projects in line with agreed schedules and business priorities
Essential experience
  • 5 years’ software development experience
  • 2 years’ experience with both C# and C
  • 1 year managing a software team using Agile methodologies
  • Strong knowledge of version control systems (Git / SVN)
  • Experience developing C applications in Linux using makefiles and GCC
  • Strong experience with Visual Studio IDEs
  • Experience developing WPF applications for Windows
Desirable experience
  • Firmware programming experience (or willingness to learn)
  • Microprocessor C programming
  • Device communications via USB, Serial or Ethernet
  • Experience with multi‑project solutions in Visual Studio
  • Image processing knowledge
  • Exposure to IT systems, business systems or website support
