We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Clinical Trials Pharmacist (Band 8a) to lead and support the pharmacy aspects of clinical trials across all divisions. This pivotal role combines advanced clinical trial pharmacy expertise with strategic and operational leadership, contributing directly to the success of Trust and Oxford University‑led research.

The role also offers hands‑on experience in aseptic preparation of IMPs within our clinical trials aseptic unit and ATMP Unit, supporting the delivery of high‑quality, innovative treatments.

Main responsibilities
  • Provide support to the Head of Clinical Trials to deliver an efficient service for all pharmacy‑based clinical trials and promote the Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust as a centre of excellence for R&D.
  • Work with the Clinical Trials team to strategically plan and manage the workload for trials aseptically prepared by the Partnership Organisation.
  • Collaborate with the Head of Clinical Trials to plan and manage workload for all clinical trials across all four sites.
  • Provide specialised advice to researchers regarding Investigational Medicinal Products (IMPs) and associated products during protocol development and advice on CTA applications.
  • Deputise for the Head of Clinical Trials as appropriate.
  • Ensure safe and effective management and use of IMPs on all sites within the Trust and its partners, in accordance with relevant regulations (ICH/GCP, EU Directive 2001/20/EC, FDA, GMP).
  • Be an active member of the pharmacy department and specialist area/Directorate team, ensuring continuous information exchange to maintain high standards of medicine use within the Trust.
Person Specification

  • Qualified to Pharmacy master's degree level (4‑year MPharm) or equivalent.
  • Registration with GPhC.
  • Postgraduate diploma.
  • Experience as a clinical pharmacist at a high level in a variety of clinical areas.
  • Experience working with Clinical Trials.
Desirable
  • Experience with department finance or budgeting.
  • Management and change‑management experience.
  • QI project or qualification.
  • Teaching/coaching experience.
  • Management and/or leadership qualifications or courses.
  • Involvement in a pharmacist‑led outpatient clinic as a non‑medical prescriber.
