Job description

We are looking to recruit an experienced Lead Structural Consultant to support the continued growth and development of our design, modelling and simulation consultancy business. As a part of our team, you will report to an Engineering Manager and play a vital role in supporting the delivery of a wide range of projects across the structural engineering domain. The position can be based in either our Derby or Bristol (Quayside) offices.

  • Supporting/leading the development of our in-house structural analysis capability, including coaching and development of more junior staff members.
  • Supporting and leading business development activities with a range of new and existing clients, to include sourcing leads, generating proposals and sharing Element work through conferences and publications.
  • Carry-out a range of technical projects and analyses to support client needs and deliverables.
  • Supporting the development of a positive team culture with adherence to core values - care, integrity, and progress.
  • Supporting the alignment of junior members with strategic objectives and customer needs.
  • Providing input into Personal Development Plans.
  • A Bachelor's degree (grade 2.1 or above), Masters or PhD in a relevant engineering, science or applied mathematics discipline.
  • A thorough understanding of engineering material behaviour, thermo-mechanical fatigue, fracture and crack propagation, and the modelling of contact behaviour.
  • A track record on defining and delivering projects involving structural design, stress analysis, structural durability, and fracture mechanics, ideally as a Stress Engineer.
  • Experience of commercial finite element analysis software, preferably ABAQUS and/or ANSYS and be able to develop new methods and extend their capability using user defined functions.
  • Familiarity with relevant structural integrity assessment and design codes would be an advantage.
  • Ability to deliver engineering projects with awareness of quality, budget, and timescale.
  • Confidence to support the development and growth of our structural capability, working effectively as part of a technically innovative and multi-disciplinary technical team.
  • Experience in technically supporting the development of junior team members and other leaders. As a Lead Engineer you will mentor, coach and support others; developing their technical understanding and competence.
  • Motivation to provide exceptional customer interaction and contribute to the wider business development of the company. Ideally able to demonstrate a strong business network within highly regulated industries.
  • Chartered Engineer (or equivalent) status or be actively working towards chartership status.
