Overview

Activities aimed at proving a concept to be valid or technically feasible by applying scientific and engineering methodologies. As Lead Electronic Hardware Engineer, the successful candidate will be part of a highly motivated, dynamic team working on the delivery and application engineering of existing and new electronic applications, particularly for HVDC converters and the forthcoming "HVDC Grid". This role offers autonomy within standard functional practices and procedures and provides opportunities for innovation, design skill growth, and personal development within an internationally recognised company. The role is based at the HVDC Centre of Excellence in Stafford with possible international travel to collaborate with GE teams, test laboratories, strategic suppliers and contract customers.

Responsibilities
  • Able to work to deadlines with high quality and accuracy.
  • Dynamic and proactive, able to work independently or as part of a multi-disciplinary engineering team to resolve technical issues.
  • Digital electronic circuit design and development.
  • Analogue electronic circuit design and development.
  • Schematic capture supervision.
  • PCB layout supervision, including rules & constraints.
  • Electronic component selection, analysis, and qualification testing.
  • Component-level design error testing and analysis.
  • FPGA component selection.
  • Product verification (bench testing) and validation (integration testing).
  • Type testing - EMC, Environmental, Halt.
  • Electronic design for EMC.
  • PCB interactions within power electronics systems.
  • Design for manufacture (DFM), test (DFT), industrialisation & design to cost.
  • Has practical electronic bench testing experience.
  • Willingness to travel (on-site visits or client meetings ~10% of the time).
Qualifications
  • Education: Graduate level or equivalent experience.
  • Experience level: 4+ years.
  • Technical skills: Digital and analogue electronic design for an industrial power electronics system; knowledge of HVDC is preferred.
  • Interpersonal skills: analytical, team player, problem-solver, flexible.
  • Experience in DFMEA, root cause analysis, and participation in problem-solving activities (e.g., 8D).
  • Some knowledge and experience of firmware code development.
  • Some knowledge and experience of model-based product development tools (MATLAB, Mathcad, LTspice).
  • Experience maintaining legacy products, including updates to extend product life span.
  • Language skills: as applicable.
