Lead Electrical Design Engineer

Lead Electrical Design Engineer – Based in Filton - Hybrid working (approx. 60% onsite)

Guidant Global is delighted to partner with Airbus to recruit a Lead Electrical Design Engineer to join the Test Centre (1VM) in Filton. This is an exciting opportunity to shape the development of a new avionic control bench supporting large hydromechanical installations for landing gear extension/retraction and braking systems.

What you'll be doing

As the Lead Electrical Design Engineer, you will play a key role in delivering a brand‑new control bench from concept through to entry into service. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Leading the full electrical design of a new avionic control bench
  • Developing electrical schematics, technical drawings and specifications
  • Contributing to the overall system architecture
  • Managing design risks and major engineering milestones (FCR, PDR, FDR, CDR)
  • Supporting and overseeing assembly, build, and integration activities
  • Leading the Validation & Verification phase
  • Ensuring successful entry into service
  • Working closely with multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders to meet time, cost and quality targets
What you'll bring

We're looking for someone with proven experience leading medium‑to‑large‑scale engineering design projects - ideally within aerospace, test systems, or complex engineering environments.

You'll also bring:

  • Strong background in electrical design and architecture
  • Experience working with design tools such as AutoCAD, AutoCAD Electrical or KiCad
  • Understanding of electrical systems, testing principles, and instrumentation
  • Knowledge of avionic hardware interfaces (analogue, discrete)
  • Familiarity with avionic data buses (A429, CAN, AFDX)
  • Experience with control systems and data acquisition
  • A collaborative mindset, adaptability, and strong communication skills

Aviation or landing‑gear‑related experience is beneficial but not essential. Transferable engineering experience from other sectors is welcomed.

Contract details
  • Hourly rate: £37.38 (PAYE) / £50.00 (Umbrella)
  • Hours: 35 per week across 4.5 days (between 7am-7pm)
  • Clearance: BPSS+ (completed by Airbus Security)
  • IR35 status: Inside IR35
  • Travel: Occasional
