Overview
There is an exciting opportunity for an experienced senior registered nurse to join the cancer services team at Whittington Health NHS Trust. The post seeks a dynamic and motivated individual with an established background in breast cancer care to oversee the operational running, service development, and management of the Breast Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) team and service. The post holder will ensure high quality care to breast cancer patients and will take a leadership role as part of the Cancer Nursing Lead team, managing high-quality, cost-effective care for patients with suspected or confirmed breast cancer. The post holder will lead the development of strategy for continuous improvement and implement change in collaboration with the wider MDT and external partners within North Central London. Current projects include the breast pain pathway and provision of nurse-led clinics to facilitate follow up of patients receiving targeted therapies. The role ideally requires working at an advanced level of practice and completion of a non-medical prescriber (NMP) course.
Responsibilities and duties
- Lead on the operational running and service development of the Breast CNS team and service.
- Deliver high quality, patient-centred clinical care for breast cancer patients and ensure nursing practice reflects current clinical developments and is evidence based.
- Provide inclusive, visible, and reliable leadership to the Breast CNS Team and act as a clinical practitioner in areas of expertise where appropriate.
- Collaborate with the Senior Nurse Leadership Team to embed the Trust's Nursing, Midwifery and AHP Strategy locally.
- Lead on improvements in nursing standards, promote evidence-based practice, and participate in the development and evaluation of integrated care pathways in breast care.
- Work with the breast multidisciplinary team to develop models of care and facilitate seamless patient pathways through the service.
- Represent the Division at designated meetings and deputise for the Lead Cancer Nurse when required.
- Act as Line Manager for Breast CNSs and Breast CSWs.
Safeguarding
- Comply with the Trust's Safeguarding Children and Adults policies, procedures and protocols.
- Familiarise and comply with London Child Protection Procedures and London Pan London Safeguarding Vulnerable Adults procedures.
- Know reporting lines, participate in required training and supervision, and maintain professional boundaries.
