A leading aerospace solutions provider in Redditch is looking for a Mechanical Testing Technician to perform laboratory tests on fastener samples. The role requires at least 1 year of experience in a lab or quality inspection role, strong attention to detail, and the ability to read technical documents. This position involves conducting destructive testing and ensuring compliance with industry standards such as NADCAP and AS9100.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 1 year of experience in a manufacturing/lab environment.
  • Experience in a quality-based role such as inspection or test technician.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct destructive testing of samples for production batches.
  • Accurately record test data and transpose it to the ERP system.
  • Liaise with the Logistics team to process priority work in progress.

Job description
Overview

Perform Mechanical laboratory testing for Fastener samples to pre-determined test methods. Adhere to procedures to ensure compliance to NADCAP, AS9100 and customer requirements. Understand and interpret technical documents with demonstrable experience of at least 1 year in a similar role.

Responsibilities
  • Destructive testing of samples for production batches. Test methods include: Tensile; Double Shear; Proof stress and elongation; Fatigue; Chemical analysis; Torque; Metallurgical assessments; Accurately recording test data and transposing to the ERP system; Exporting reports from test machines to the ERP system; Participation in Internal Round Robin program; Identifying and reporting errors in testing.
  • Participation in NADCAP audits.
  • Liaison with Logistics team to process priority WIP in a timely manner.
  • Development of internal procedures for test methods.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Must have at least 1 year of experience in a manufacturing/lab environment.
  • Experience is essential in a quality-based role (i.e. inspection or test technician).
  • Must have great attention to detail.
  • Must be able to read technical drawings and specifications.
  • Demonstrable skills in escalating problems that are identified in the testing procedure.
  • Experience of working as part of a team.
Physical & Technical Demands

The role involves the destructive testing of product. You will be required to perform physically repetitive tasks such as loading jigs to test machines, loading samples to jigs and preparing micro cross section mounts. You will be required to follow specific test instructions and be capable of interpreting product technical specifications for test parameters.
