Job summary

Location: Various venues in and around Chester including after-school clubs and events across the local area (e.g., schools, community centres)

Hours: After-school sessions 3:20-4:30, Saturday art club 10-12:15, face painting at events on weekends/evenings

Role type: Self‑employed contractor

DBS: Can be arranged if required

The Art Doctor UK is a creative arts organisation founded by Dr Helen Jones (Doctor of Art) and her husband, offering a wide range of art experiences, including after-school art classes, bespoke school workshops (painting, printmaking, sculpture, clay, etc.), kids' weekend art sessions, parties, and face painting plus adults art workshops and paint and sip evenings. Our experienced team delivers high quality, engaging art activities for all ages, nurturing creativity and confidence in young people and adults alike.

We're looking for a Creative Art Club Assistant / Leader & Face Painter to join us in inspiring young artists!

You will:
  • Support the delivery of after‑school art clubs, and occasionally lead them, guiding children through creative art activities in a structured yet fun environment.
  • Assist at occasional weekend and evening events such as holiday workshops, arty parties, art clubs and face paint events.
  • Provide face painting at events, children's parties, arty parties, art workshops, and other creative occasions.
  • Help maintain a positive, safe, and inclusive space for children aged 4‑11 (always with assistance during clubs, but solo during face painting events).
    Set up and pack down art materials and face painting stations with attention to health & safety.
We're seeking someone who is:
  • Creative & confident with art activities – good art skills.
  • Friendly, engaging, and patient – experience with children beneficial, strong rapport‑building with kids and parents.
  • Proficient in face painting techniques – can paint a number of faces with some speed and accuracy.
  • Organised and reliable – punctual and comfortable planning basic session elements.
  • Safeguarding aware – willingness to complete a DBS check and training if needed.
  • Comfortable working in a team and independently in diverse settings.
Mobile and flexible – travel between venues will be required

Has some experience in teaching, childcare, face painting, or creative facilitation is a strong advantage (desirable).

Responsibilities
  • Direct and supervise children during organised art activities, ensuring their safety at all times.
  • Help plan/facilitate and sometimes lead engaging art activities during kids art classes.
  • Maintain a clean and organised activity area, ensuring all face paint and art equipment is safe and in good condition.
  • Communicate effectively with children, parents, and team members to ensure a positive experience for everyone involved.
  • Travel to clubs and events in Chester and around Cheshire and surrounding regions.
  • Assist with registration and check‑in procedures for children attending the Kids Club programme and photograph artistic outcomes for our social media.
  • Support the development of programmes by suggesting new activities that encourage participation and enjoyment.
  • Develop and enhance your face painting skills.
Qualifications
  • Any art training at any level is an advantage.
  • Training or experience or interest in teaching, or working with children is desirable.
  • Face painting training and/or experience desirable.
  • Excellent communication skills to effectively engage with children and parents alike.
  • Strong public speaking abilities to lead group activities confidently.
  • Organised with the ability to plan fun, artistic educational activities tailored to different age groups.
  • Friendly, approachable demeanour with a genuine passion for working with children.
  • Ability to work well within a team environment while maintaining independence when supervising children.
  • Any social media experience to enhance our social media accounts is desirable but not essential.
  • DBS check desirable but can be organised.
Safeguarding & Training

DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service) checks can be provided where required and all activities are conducted following current safeguarding and health/safety guidelines to ensure the wellbeing of children and staff.
