Job Title

Junior Clinical Fellow – Emergency Department

Job Summary

Are you a junior doctor who has the capacity to be alert to dangers or problems and the ability to make good decisions? Then we would like to hear from you.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in the provision of an effective emergency medicine service for the people of Mid Essex in collaboration with colleagues, providing emergency treatment to patients attending the Emergency Medicine Department and liaising with specialties.
  • Assist and guide junior doctors in emergency medicine.
  • Liaise with the shop floor/on‑call consultant for clinical and administrative matters and with the sister/nurse in charge and nursing staff to organise the smooth running of the department, focusing on floor management in line with national targets.
  • Take a lead in ensuring the ED 4‑hour target is achieved without compromising good quality of patient care.
  • Provide diagnostic and therapeutic services to all patients attending the emergency assessment area, which includes minor injuries, minor illnesses, ambulatory majors, majors, paediatric and resuscitation areas, all part of the Emergency Village.
  • Ensure patients are given a graduated model of care and are moved through the assessment areas according to their dependency needs.
  • Work in the stand‑alone urgent treatment centre alongside a co‑located General Practitioner as well as Emergency Department clinicians.
  • Lead the department only under supervision; you will not be expected to lead the department unsupervised at any time.
