IT Trackside Technical Specialist

Description

We are seeking a IT Trackside Technical Specialist to join our growing IT Department here in Silverstone! You will help design, maintain, and optimise the IT trackside infrastructure with a particular focus on network architecture, security, and resilience. Acting as deputy to the IT Trackside Technical Lead, you will provide guidance to engineers, interface with vendors, and ensure seamless communication with our stakeholders and partners.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support the design and development of trackside IT infrastructure, with emphasis on network and firewall architecture.
  • Ensure reliable operation of IT trackside systems, managing patching, monitoring, and maintenance to avoid disruption during events.
  • Act as deputy to the IT Trackside Technical Lead, sharing technical knowledge across the wider team in a clear and accessible way.
  • Provide escalation support for advanced networking issues, working closely with vendors and suppliers.
  • Maintain and improve monitoring, backup, disaster recovery, and network performance tools.
  • Manage lifecycle processes for IT assets including hardware, software, licenses, and warranties.
  • Identify and implement opportunities for network optimisation, automation, and virtualisation at trackside.
  • Contribute to sustainability initiatives by evaluating and improving the ecological impact of IT operations.
  • Ensure alignment between factory and trackside systems for consistent and reliable processes.
  • Liaise with suppliers, partners, and stakeholders, ensuring clear technical communication.
  • Support high-pressure live-event environments, delivering resilient and performant infrastructure at every race.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
  • Significant experience with enterprise IT platforms (VMware, Windows Server/Client, Active Directory, Exchange, SQL, SAN/Storage – NetApp preferred).
  • Deep networking and security expertise, covering LAN/WAN, routing, switching, wireless, VPN, and firewall technologies (Cisco, Juniper, Palo Alto, or equivalent).
  • Formal certifications (e.g., CCNP, JNCIP, PCNSE) are highly desirable.
  • Strong troubleshooting and optimisation experience in time‑critical environments.
  • Familiarity with ITIL processes and methodologies.
  • Motorsport IT experience is advantageous, particularly with telemetry systems, intercoms.
  • Experience with cloud technologies such as Azure, Office 365, Linux, Kubernetes is desirable.
