An exciting 12-month fixed-term opportunity has arisen for an experienced governance professional to take on a senior leadership role within a complex public sector organisation in West London (hybrid 1–2 days a week).

Position: Interim Assistant Director of Governance

As Assistant Director - Governance, you'll provide oversight and assurance across governance, risk, compliance, and audit functions, working closely with senior leaders, boards, and auditors.

A key focus of the role is developing and embedding a robust governance framework that will leave a lasting legacy, ensuring statutory compliance and driving a culture of accountability and transparency throughout the organisation. This role also includes managing and mentoring a small team, strengthening capability, and ensuring governance supports effective decision-making across all levels of the organisation.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide oversight and assurance across governance, risk, compliance, and audit functions.
  • Work closely with senior leaders, boards, and auditors.
  • Develop and embed a robust governance framework; ensure statutory compliance.
  • Drive a culture of accountability and transparency throughout the organisation.
  • Manage and mentor a small team; strengthen capability and governance support for effective decision-making.

Requirements / Qualifications:

  • Proof of senior-level experience in governance, audit, or risk, ideally in the public sector.
  • Strong knowledge of statutory responsibilities.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to present complex issues with clarity.
