A major public transport authority in London is seeking an Infrastructure Engineer to manage core systems and improve infrastructure. The ideal candidate will have experience with Microsoft technologies and VMware, ensuring stability and compliance. This role includes on-call responsibilities and offers excellent benefits including free travel and a final salary pension scheme.
The Networks and Hosting team, within TfL are responsible for Microsoft (including Windows, Azure and SQL), AWS, Oracle and LINUX technologies managing and maintaining TfL's core infrastructure at a virtual and physical layer.
The core servers we use includes Hyper Converged Infrastructure and full Windows Environments, hosting over 400 of TfLs Mission Critical and Business Critical services including The Elizabeth Line, London Underground, Overground, Buses and Oyster/Contactless which ultimately keep TfL services running.
The team is made up of approximately 20 Windows/VMware Infrastructure platform specialists, working together across multiple, key functional workstreams including day to day operational activities and Project Deliveries.
As an Infrastructure Engineer, you will carry out day to day technical activities, guided by a Senior Engineer. There may also be requirement to support out of hours work and on-call for TfL's 24/7 supported services, but this comes with a pay supplement. Workstreams include:
Run Operations - The teams primary focus is to prevent outages through checks and monitoring, and if a failure does occur, identifying the root cause and restore the service.
Ensure that tools and platforms remain upgraded and compliant to keep them safe from cyber-attacks, stable, and fully supported.
Working closely with our team of Technical Delivery Managers to deliver improvements to existing infrastructure.
Projects - Delivering specific project outcomes, and new services, related to the infrastructure environment including proof of concepts activities. Collaboration with our team of Technical Delivery Managers, and often Infrastructure Architects is key, to help deliver these outcomes.
