SEND Specialist School - Derby

Overview

About The School: We are an Outstanding specialist school supporting children and young people with Autism Spectrum Conditions (ASC). We provide a nurturing, purpose‑built environment in a semi‑rural setting with excellent transport links.

The Role

We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic teacher to join our team, delivering a combined ICT / Mathematics role: approximately 75% ICT and 25% Mathematics. The successful candidate will work within our supportive, ASD‑specialist setting to plan and teach engaging, differentiated lessons, fostering learning, resilience and independence in our students. This is a full‑time position starting immediately.

Responsibilities
  • Plan, deliver and assess high‑quality ICT lessons, ensuring curriculum coverage and progression.
  • Teach Mathematics in line with students' needs, providing support and challenge.
  • Adapt teaching to meet the needs of pupils with ASC, developing flexible thinking and effective communication.
  • Collaborate with therapy and specialist intervention teams to embed holistic approaches in learning.
  • Support the maintenance of emotional wellbeing, communication development, social skills and adaptive thinking in students.
  • Contribute to school life: house system, PSHE / RSE, safeguarding, promoting equality, British values etc.
Person Specification

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has relevant teaching qualifications and experience teaching ICT and/or Mathematics.
  • Understands or is willing to learn about autism, sensory, communication and social/emotional needs.
  • Is adaptable, patient, resilient and creative in approach.
  • Excellent classroom management and the ability to create a calm, structured learning environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, able to work as part of a multidisciplinary team.
