Job description

Market 36 Recruitment is currently seeking a HSE Manager on behalf of our client based in Braintree for a full‑time & permanent position. The main purpose is to prevent workplace injuries by developing and implementing business‑wide policies, procedures and training to create a safe and legally compliant work environment. The HSE Manager will work closely with senior management to identify and mitigate risks, ensure continuous compliance with health and safety legislation, investigate incidents efficiently and promote a culture of safety.

Roles & Responsibilities
  • Prepare HSE strategy and develop group‑wide policies.
  • Review group policies and procedures as required to ensure compliance with legislation and best practice.
  • Manage waste, scrap and hazardous waste streams.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement in company policy and practices.
  • Conduct risk assessments and determine how risks can be reduced.
  • Promote good HSE practices and awareness throughout the group and monitor implementation of group policies and procedures, ensuring statutory requirements are upheld across the organisation.
  • Consult with directors and managers regarding HSE legislation and codes of practice.
  • Lead in‑house training with managers and employees on HSE issues.
  • Conduct or arrange site and workplace audits and ensure remedial actions are implemented.
  • Maintain accident and near‑miss statistics, analyse trends and implement remedial action as necessary; produce monthly and quarterly reports for senior management.
  • Investigate incidents, produce reports of findings and undertake RIDDOR reporting as appropriate.
  • Be the focus for HSE for the group, coordinating communications including management reports, newsletters and bulletins.
  • Arrange for and renew accreditations with external organisations, e.g., SMAS & Safe Contractor.
  • Consult with external bodies for advice and information.
  • Consult with insurance companies regarding personal injury claims.
  • Assist with completion of PQQ documents.
Experience, Education & Qualifications
  • NEBOSH General Certificate is essential.
  • Minimum 3‑5 years’ experience within this field.
  • Strong knowledge of health and safety legislation and regulations.
  • Auditing experience.
  • Management of HSE systems, developing, implementing and monitoring.
  • Incident investigation experience.
  • Attention to detail and application of working processes.
  • Strong ability to analyse data & solve problems.
  • Excellent leadership, training and communication skills.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities, legislation and challenging situations.

Salary: £40,000-£50,000. Hours: 40 hours per week. Braintree‑based, but will require travel to other locations to complete risk assessments on behalf of the company.
