Overview

St Johns Hospice is a 10 bedded in-patient unit based in Balby, Doncaster. Specialist palliative care services provide complex symptom management, psychological support and end of life care to patients and their families within a welcoming, safe and comfortable environment. We are seeking a Nursing Assistant with formal experience of working within a care environment who is passionate about providing high quality care and support and wants to make a difference to our patients and their families at a difficult time in their lives.

You will work as part of our In-Patient Unit team and with the wider multidisciplinary team, alongside trained nursing staff.

The Hospice offers a long day shift pattern. Training will be provided to enable you to work with clients with complex and intensive needs, including using a range of medical/nursing equipment to optimise health, well-being and independence.

Responsibilities
  • Contribute to the assessment, implementation and delivery of individualised evidence-based care.
  • Provide feedback on current patient/status to appropriate members of the professional team.
  • Assist in the promotion and maintenance of activities of daily living for patients/service users.
  • Assist the relevant professional during assessment, treatment or intervention where required.
  • Support the patient/service user to make use of available services and facilities.
  • Follow Health and Safety regulations to promote a safe environment.
  • Contribute and participate within the Clinical Governance framework by attending team and unit meetings; act as link person as required (e.g., Health & Safety, Infection Control; involvement with audit).
  • Report all accidents, incidents/untoward incidents as per policy.
  • Adhere to all Trust policies and procedures and maintain confidentiality at all times in accordance with Trust policies and national guidelines.
Requirements
  • Recent experience in a health/social care setting is essential, with some experience in caring for patients with palliative care needs.
  • Formal experience of working within a care environment and a passion for high quality care.
  • Sound communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work as part of a team with the initiative to support the wider nursing team.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and to use initiative to support colleagues.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting a safe environment.
