Mitie Care & Custody (C&C) is driven by a bold vision: to establish HMP Millsike as a place of restoration and rehabilitation, where prisoners can unlock their full potential and make meaningful, positive changes in their lives. We are excited by the opportunity Millsike presents: a blank canvas on which we can paint a bright future for our prisoners. Our mission is clear: to create an environment that empowers, inspires, and supports individuals to re-enter society with hope, purpose, and a life plan. To achieve this, we will set a culture of rehabilitation and restoration underpinned by integrity and high expectations. Prisoners will experience a dramatic shift from traditional prison environments. Millsike will be a vibrant, bustling community, teeming with industry, activity and opportunities for personal growth. Above all, we will ensure our approach offers a deep sense of safety/respect, through a supportive, uplifting environment, that helps prisoners to see their potential and that unlocks a brighter future for all.
The role involves completing planned and reactive maintenance and monitoring of all prison fabrics within scope. You will conduct tasks in compliance with Company Safety Policy, Procedures, relevant Codes of Practice, NR, and Statutory Regulations, ensuring adherence to the Company's and Clients' Permit to Work Systems. Completing Planned Preventive Maintenance and Helpdesk tasks to ensure contract compliance is essential, as is maintaining SHE standards.
You will liaise with engineers and subcontractors, develop a detailed knowledge and understanding of the site engineering services, and be fully aware of contractual requirements from the engineering brief. Supporting the development and communication of best working practices is part of the role. You must understand and complete all work-related documentation accurately and on time, coordinate connections to existing plant/systems, and effectively use and maintain O&M Manuals and quality procedures.
Availability for scheduled and unplanned weekend working is required. Compliance with company and statutory regulations relating to safe systems of work, health and safety, hygiene, cleanliness, and localised fire regulation procedures is mandatory.
The site is a 24-hour 365-day operation, and the expectation is that the engineering team will work to a shift rota pattern and offer out of hours call out functions.
The candidate must possess one of the following certificates: Apprenticeship or equivalent, IOSH or equivalent, C&G/BTEC Mechanical and Electrical Building Services Engineering Parts 1, 2, and 3, NVQ with multi-skilled engineering Level 3, C&G 2079 F Gas or equivalent, HVAC or gas equivalent, or C&G 2391/2 18th edition IEE regulations.
Previous relevant experience in providing electrical maintenance services in a large complex environment is essential. The candidate should have basic to intermediate IT skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook, along with some experience in updating central data systems. Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, are required, as well as excellent interpersonal skills and self-motivation.
Substantial practical experience with a comprehensive knowledge of all building services disciplines, including heating, hot water, ventilation, refrigeration, environmental systems, electrical power and distribution, and public health, is necessary. The candidate should be a team worker with flexibility within contracted hours, a strong team player with a ‘can do' attitude, and possess an intuitive and proactive nature. High moral standards and absolute integrity are also required.
As a business, Mitie Care & Custody is committed to diversity and inclusion and we would welcome applications from a wide range of backgrounds including veterans, those looking for a career change, and people who have experience in social care or a learning environment. Full training will be given where applicable, and we would encourage anyone who might be thinking about a role in a secure establishment to get in touch.
