Overview

Do you have the skills and dedication to support students with complex needs while taking on a rewarding Higher Level Teaching Assistant role?

GSL Education are looking for a committed Higher Level Teaching Assistant to join a supportive school in Lancing, working closely with children who require specialist support. This role is ideal for someone with experience, compassion, and the confidence to take on additional classroom responsibilities.

Responsibilities

As a HLTA, you will:

  • Deliver small group and one-to-one interventions for pupils with complex needs.
  • Support teaching staff by planning and delivering tailored learning activities.
  • Assist with behaviour management strategies to ensure a positive learning environment.
  • Work closely with teachers, SENCO, and external professionals to support student progress.
  • Monitor and record pupil development, sharing updates with staff and parents.
  • Promote independence, resilience, and confidence in every learner.
Requirements
  • HLTA status or equivalent experience in a higher-level support role.
  • Previous experience working with students with complex needs.
  • Strong communication, teamwork, and organisational skills.
  • A patient, empathetic, and adaptable approach to supporting pupils.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
  • An enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service (or willingness to apply).
  • A full CV covering the last 10 years of employment, with explanations for any gaps.
