Role: Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) - Maths

Location: Haringey

Start Date: September 2025

End Date: Negotiable

Pay Scale: £90 – £110 per day – depending on experience & contract type

We have an exciting opportunity for a Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) – Maths to join our supportive client school in Haringey. This role offers the chance to deliver high-quality learning support in Mathematics, work alongside experienced teachers, and contribute to students’ academic progress and confidence in the subject.

Responsibilities
  • Deliver pre-planned lessons and small group interventions in Maths under the guidance of teaching staff.
  • Support students in KS3/KS4 Maths, helping them to grasp key concepts, complete tasks, and prepare for assessments.
  • Take responsibility for classes when teachers are absent, ensuring continuity of learning and effective behaviour management.
  • Assist in preparing learning resources and differentiated materials to meet students’ individual needs.
  • Track student progress in Maths, keeping records and providing feedback to teachers on achievements and areas for improvement.
  • Provide targeted one-to-one support for pupils who require additional help in Maths, including those with SEN or EAL needs.
  • Foster a positive learning environment by motivating students to participate and build confidence in their Maths skills.
  • Work closely with Maths teachers, SEND staff, and senior leaders to ensure consistent support across the department.
  • Support Maths-related clubs, homework sessions, or enrichment activities where appropriate.
  • Follow school safeguarding, health & safety, and behaviour management policies at all times.
The successful candidate will have:
  • HLTA qualification or equivalent, or substantial school-based TA/CS experience with strong Maths knowledge.
  • Degree in Mathematics or A-level mathematics.
  • Previous experience supporting students in Maths at KS3/KS4.
  • Strong subject knowledge and ability to explain concepts clearly.
  • Good literacy and numeracy skills and qualifications.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, enabling you to build strong relationships with staff, students, and parents.
  • A proactive, adaptable approach with enthusiasm for raising achievement in Maths.
  • Enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service (or willingness to apply for a new one).
