Job summary

A regional fire and rescue service is offering a position for a skilled Vehicle Technician to perform repairs, modifications, and maintenance on their fleet of vehicles. This full-time role based at their Rotherham workshop requires a recognized qualification in LGV/HGV Vehicle Maintenance, along with experience in servicing light and large goods vehicles. Qualifications

  • Recognised qualification in LGV/HGV Vehicle Maintenance and Repair, NVQ level 3 or equivalent.
  • LGV Driving Licence – Class “C” minimum.
  • Experience of repairs, maintenance and servicing to both light and large goods vehicles.

Overview

An opportunity has arisen within our Transport section for a skilled Vehicle Technician based at our Workshop in Rotherham. The overall purpose of the role will be to undertake repairs, modifications and maintenance to our fleet of vehicles and equipment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Repair, maintenance and servicing of light and large goods vehicles to required standard.
  • Repair and maintenance of pneumatic, hydraulic and vehicle electrical/electronic systems.
  • Apply road transport standards for class 4, 5, 7 and LGV vehicles.
  • Use vehicle diagnostic and repair techniques.
  • Work independently or within a team and be included in the 24 hour standby/call out rota.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Recognised qualification in LGV/HGV Vehicle Maintenance and Repair, NVQ level 3 or equivalent.
  • LGV Driving Licence – Class “C” minimum.
  • Experience of repairs, maintenance and servicing to both light and large goods vehicles.
  • Knowledge of current road vehicle maintenance standards.
  • Good understanding of vehicle diagnostic and repair techniques.

Additional Information

New starters will commence on the bottom of the salary grade and will receive increases to the top of the grade on an incremental basis. We offer 28 days annual leave (pro-rata) plus Bank Holidays. Annual leave increases after 5 years’ service to 32 days, followed by an extra day a year up to a maximum of 37 days. We also operate a generous flexi time attendance scheme.

Most of our corporate roles offer flexi time and agile working, meaning people can vary their hours to suit their commitments outside of work as agreed with their line manager. Flexi time can be accrued with a potential of up to 13 days to be taken within a year.

All eligible corporate staff are auto-enrolled onto the Local Government Pension Scheme with contributions ranging from 5.5% to 12.5%. It is a defined benefit pension scheme that means pensions are based on salary and the length of paying into the scheme.
