Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a care or health support role.
  • Physically able to undertake duties including moving and handling tasks.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding and infection control procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Assist patients with personal hygiene and mobility needs.
  • Help patients with nutritional support and document intake.
  • Provide emotional support to patients and relatives.
  • Record vital signs and routine observations accurately.
  • Support basic clinical procedures and maintain clinical areas.

Job description

We have an opportunity for a Healthcare Assistant to join their team of staff in the Wards department. This is a full‑time role for 37.5 hours a week. The role holder will be required to cover a flexible shift pattern.

Responsibilities
  • Assist patients with personal hygiene, washing, dressing, toileting, oral care, and mobility needs, respecting their preferences and dignity.
  • Help patients with eating, drinking, and nutritional support, including documenting intake where appropriate.
  • Provide comfort and emotional support to patients and relatives, creating a caring and safe environment.
  • Carry out and accurately record routine observations such as blood pressure, pulse, respiratory rate, temperature, oxygen saturation, and blood glucose levels (after appropriate training).
  • Support basic clinical procedures, including wound care setup, assisting with catheter care, pressure area prevention, and mobility aids.
  • Prepare and maintain clinical areas, including trolleys, beds, and equipment in readiness for patient use.
  • Work collaboratively with nurses, doctors, therapists, and admin teams to support safe and efficient patient care.
Qualifications
  • Previous experience in a care or health support role (hospital, care home, community, or domiciliary).
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills with a caring, compassionate attitude.
  • Ability to follow instructions and escalates concerns appropriately.
  • Basic literacy, numeracy, and IT skills.
  • Physically able to undertake duties including moving and handling tasks.
  • NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Health and Social Care (or equivalent qualification) desirable.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding, infection control, and confidentiality procedures.
