Overview

An opportunity has arisen to join our welcoming and supportive teams within the Anaesthetics and Surgical Services Division at Bolton Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. We are looking for motivated individuals who share our values to work in a busy, demanding but highly rewarding environment. We are offering both static placements on one ward and rotations across the wards in Surgery and Orthopaedics to develop wider knowledge and experience opportunities. As an employer and sponsor licence holder, to provide sponsorship to overseas nationals via the Skilled Worker route, we must ensure that we adhere to the sponsorship requirements set by UK Visas and Immigration. After carefully reviewing this role, we do not believe that this position meets the requirements for sponsorship. NB: We do not offer remote interviews for HCA vacancies.

Previous experience is advantageous but not essential. The Trust is committed to your development and will create a dedicated personal development plan for you to ensure you are fully supported. We have a dedicated education team who are committed to guide and nurture you through your career. They will be on hand to support and guide you in completing the Care Certificate, to ensure you have the necessary knowledge and skills to undertake your new role. You will be assigned an assessor on the ward who will support you as you embark on your journey at Bolton Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. Some HCAs have gone on to become Nursing Associates or Registered Nurses, showing the potential to progress here.

Our hospitals are open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Our staff work on a shift basis to ensure our patients receive the best care at all times.

Responsibilities
  • Establish a professional rapport with patients, relatives and colleagues.
  • Understand the complex needs of patients and communicate effectively with patients, relatives and colleagues.
  • Ensure privacy and dignity are maintained at all times.
  • Deliver personal care including assisting patients with elimination needs.
  • Understand patients’ mobility abilities and provide assistance as required.
  • Provide support to patients who require enhanced care.
  • Assist patients with appropriate aids/appliances to achieve physical comfort, including safe moving and handling as required by condition and care needs.
  • Serve meals and drinks and assist with nutritional needs.
  • Bed making and correct disposal of linen and waste.
  • Provide information to enable effective care and maintain accurate records.
  • Contribute to patient safety and work collaboratively with colleagues to deliver high standards of care.
  • Work within your competence and scope of practice, seeking assistance when required.
  • Provide reassurance to patients and relatives and act as an advocate for patients.
  • Report and escalate any concerns regarding patient care.
  • Ensure safekeeping of patientProperty and valuables within Trust guidelines.
  • You may be required to work across a number of wards and departments on a rotational basis to develop skills across different clinical areas.
