Scarborough Medical Group has an exciting opportunity for an experienced, enthusiastic, and highly motivated Healthcare Assistant to join our well established GP practice.
We are a committed and friendly, mixed clinical and allied healthcare team including pharmacists, first contact physios and mental health practitioners. We enjoy full GP and nursing team support including advanced clinical practitioners, nurse practitioners, specialist practice nurses and healthcare assistants. The patient support team and clerical teams work hard to support our Clinical teams and patients.
We are part of a strong, collaborative Primary Care Network and enjoy good working relationships with colleagues in the other Practices as a result.

Main duties of the job
Hours: 16-27 hours per week ( Monday - Friday). Permanent.
Working under the supervision of the Nurse Manager and in line with established practice protocols and guidelines, the HCA will play a key role in assisting with the delivery of personalised care to our patient population. This is a hands-on role within a supportive, multi-disciplinary team, where youll be involved in a wide range of clinical and health-promotion activities.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist clinicians in providing treatment, preventative care, and long-term condition management.
Support health promotion initiatives and patient education.
Work within your scope of practice to support the care needs of our entitled patients.
Provide occasional support to the administrative team as required.
Requirements:
Completion of the Care Certificate or an equivalent recognised qualification.
A team player with excellent communication skills and a strong commitment to patient care.

Job responsibilities
Thefollowing are the core responsibilities of the Healthcare Assistant indelivering health services. There may be, on occasion, a requirement to carryout other tasks. This will be dependent upon factors such as workload andstaffing levels.
- New patienthealth checks
- Timed annualpatient checks
- ECG recording
- Chaperoningduties
- Assistingduring minor surgery procedures including the GPSI in dermatology procedures
- Processingand management of laboratory samples requested by GPs/Nurses
- Sterilising(if required), cleansing and maintenance of surgical equipment
- Vaccine/coldchain storage, monitoring and recording
- Assistancewith surgical equipment re-stocking and stock rotation
- Assistingwith the clearing and re-stocking of consulting rooms
- Preparing andmaintaining environments and equipment before, during and after patient careinterventions including assisting GPs during the performance of minoroperations
- Assisting inthe assessment and surveillance of patients health and well-being
- Undertakingspecific clinical activities for named patients that have been delegated andtaught specifically in relation to that individual
- Helping toraise awareness of health and well-being and how it can be promoted
- Assistingwith the collection and collation of data on needs related to health andwell-being
- Consult withpatients and their families to undertake assessments of patient need

Skills
- Understanding of the principles of ECGs
- Able to perform venepuncture
- Wound care/removal of sutures and staples
- Ability to undertake patient medicals, including height, weight, BP, pulse and BMI etc.
