Qualifications

Job description

We are looking for 2 experienced, caring and dedicated Healthcare Assistants to join our Living Well Services team at Longfield Community Hospice. This part-time role supports patients living with life-limiting illnesses, helping them maintain comfort, dignity, independence, and quality of life.

Working under the supervision of an experienced Registered Nurse, you will be part of a supportive multidisciplinary team delivering compassionate, person-centred care in our Day Hospice setting.

Main duties of the job

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide personal care and emotional support to Day Hospice patients
  • Assist with mobility, hygiene, and nutrition needs
  • Support patients to engage in therapeutic and social activities
  • Observe and report changes in patients condition
  • Offer reassurance and practical support to families and carers
  • Maintain a safe, welcoming, and therapeutic environment
  • Support individual patients as a key worker, with supervision and guidance
  • Assist with therapy-led activities to promote independence
  • Contribute ideas for meaningful activities for patients and carers

Job purpose

Thispart-time role involves supporting patients with life-limiting illnesses andsupporting their carers. You will help to provide comfort, dignity, andcompassionate care in a therapeutic environment. The ethos of the service is toensure our patients can maintainindependence and enjoy life as far as they possibly can. You will work underthe supervision of an experienced registered nurse as part of amultidisciplinary team.

Main dutiesand responsibilities
  • Provide personal care and emotional support to patients attendingthe day hospice.
  • Assist patients with mobility, nutrition, and hygiene needs asrequired.
  • Support patients in engaging with therapeutic activities and socialinteraction.
  • Observe and report changes in patients condition to the registerednurse.
  • Offer reassurance and practical support to carers and familymembers.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for patients andvisitors.
  • Contribute to the smooth running of the day hospice throughteamwork and flexibility.
  • Work closely with specific patients that you will be the primarysupport for, you will be supported with your caseload and supervised indirectlyby the registered nurse.
  • You will support patients through some difficult conversations andplanning.
  • You will undertake some therapy support tasks with guidance fromthe physiotherapist and occupational therapist to aid patients inmaintaining their independence.
  • You will help devise new and interesting activities for patientsand carers to keep sessions appropriate to meet their needs.

Experience

Job circumstances
  • Travel within the community will be required; a valid drivers license and access to a vehicle is required.
Qualifications
  • NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in Health and Social Care (or willingness to work towards).
