Job description

We have a fantastic opportunity for a Healthcare Assistant to join the Substance Misuse team at HMP Altcourse, a busy Category B male prison in Fazakerley, Liverpool. This crucial role within the Substance Misuse (SMS) team makes a real difference to patients and delivers outstanding care. It offers excellent developmental opportunities and a great environment to build on your experience and gain new skills. Substance Misuse experience is not essential – training will be provided for those with an interest in this area.

Job summary

Hours: Full‑time, 37.5 hours per week – four long shifts per week (7am‑5pm) and one weekend in three.

Salary: £25,557 – £29,723 per annum, depending on experience.

Main duties of the job

As a Substance Misuse Healthcare Assistant your responsibilities include:

  • Implementation of clinical care packages, phlebotomy and assessment, treatment and evaluation of patient care – including venepuncture and tissue viability.
  • Supporting the SMS nursing team in delivering medication and care to substance‑misuse patients.
  • Primarily working within the clinical substance‑misuse team, although duties may also be carried out in the primary‑care team.
  • Assisting the registered nurse in patient support, following instructions and training while promoting safe patient care and developing new skills to enhance clinical service delivery.
