About Us We are a friendly and supportive GP surgery committed to delivering high-quality care to our patients. We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Healthcare Assistant to join our team.
About the Role As a Healthcare Assistant, you will support the clinical team in providing excellent patient care. You will work under the guidance of our nurses and GPs, delivering a range of clinical and administrative tasks in line with practice protocols.
Key Responsibilities:
- Phlebotomy (blood taking)
- Blood pressure monitoring and weight checks
- ECG recording
- NHS Health Checks and chronic disease reviews (under protocol)
- Supporting the flu and vaccination clinics
- Wound care and dressings (if trained)
- Assisting with infection control and health promotion activities
- Maintaining accurate patient records on the clinical system
- Supporting patients with lifestyle advice where appropriate
- General administrative duties to support clinical staff
About You:
- Previous experience working as an HCA in a GP practice or healthcare setting is desirable
- Phlebotomy experience is essential
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Organised, reliable and flexible approach
- Compassionate and committed to delivering patient-centred care
Person Specification
Qualifications
- - Phlebotomy training and competence
- - Good standard of general education (e.g. GCSEs or equivalent)
- - NVQ Level 2/3 in Health and Social Care (or equivalent)
- - Evidence of ongoing professional development
- - Training in wound care, ECGs, NHS Health Checks
Knowledge & Skills
- - Understanding of infection prevention and control
- - Knowledge of confidentiality, safeguarding, and GDPR
- - Ability to work independently and in a team
- - Good organisational and time management skills
- - Knowledge of SystmOne or other clinical systems
- - Awareness of NHS Health Checks and QOF
Experience
- - Experience as a Healthcare Assistant or in a clinical support role
- - Experience providing direct patient care
- - Experience using IT systems for record-keeping
- - Experience in a GP surgery or primary care setting
- - Experience supporting vaccination clinics
- - Experience with chronic disease management (under protocol)
- - Experience of Stock control ordering of consumables and other medical equipment
