Healthcare Improvement Scotland is an organisation with many parts and one purpose – better quality health and social care for everyone in Scotland.

We are currently seeking to appoint one Health Services Researcher with practical experience in conducting literature reviews and critical appraisals. This post is a unique opportunity within the Scottish Medicines Consortium (SMC) and National Cancer Medicines Advisory Group (NCMAG) programmes. Both groups conduct Health Technology Assessments within Healthcare Improvement Scotland. The successful candidate will divide their working time equally between the two teams.

Responsibilities
  • Support the Clinical Assessment Group activities regarding the critical appraisal of clinical evidence for medicines.
  • Lead on tasks associated with the assessment of Abbreviated Submissions, a streamlined process that reviews medicines where alternatives within the same class have been accepted for use within NHSScotland.
  • Support all key functions within SMC, with a focus on the new medicines assessment process.
  • Lead clinical expert consultation, conduct literature reviews to validate end of life and orphan status, perform budget impact assessments, and conduct critical appraisal of clinical studies and indirect treatment comparisons.
  • Within the NCMAG programme, lead critical reviews and appraisals of clinical studies and support robust and consistent methods and processes for the delivery of the programme.
  • Support the project team to monitor and measure impact on patient access to treatment and on service delivery by designing evaluation tools to understand effectiveness and impact of the new process in relation to project objectives.
