Job description

West Heath Surgery is a forward thinking and innovative GP practice within West Heath, Birmingham. As part of the SDSmyhealthcare federation, we aim to provide a first class service to our patients with the role of Medical Administrator being vital in this delivery.

The role of a Health Care Assistant at West Heath Surgery involves developing a professional and clinical rapport with our patients whilst carrying out investigative procedures and supporting our patients through their various care journeys in a kind and friendly manner.

Thepost holder also is responsible for assisting the GPs and Practice Nurses in the service and delivery of care managementto the Surgery's patients, by carrying outassigned tasks, involving direct nursing care in support of and supervised by aGP or Practice nurse strictly in accordance withservice practice guidelines and protocols.

Main duties of the job

The job role includes (and is not inclusive of):

·Preparing and maintaining environments and equipmentbefore, during and after patient interventions

·Provide Phlebotomy services in accordance with training andprocedures

·Ensuring specimens are labelled and bagged readyfor collection with the necessary paperwork completed

·Taking physiological measurements from patientsincluding blood pressure, pulse rate, rhythm, temperature, height and weight(body mass index), urinalysis

· To complete new patient registration checks, NHS Health Checks,including completing any necessary

· To provide simple wound care in accordance withtraining and procedures

· To notify and communicate with the clinical team regarding any significant patient issues

· To provide lifestyleadvice, health promotion and smoking cessation to patients and making any necessary referrals

·Assisting GPswith minor surgery and act as a chaperonewhere requested in accordance to local policy

·Clearing and restocking of consulting/treatment rooms

·Carrying out administrative tasks for example, but notlimited to, call and recall activities and stock takes

·Strict adherence toinfection control in accordance with local and national policies andprocedures

Job responsibilities

Thepost holder is responsible for assisting the GPs (General Practitioners) andGPNs (General Practice Nurses) in the service and delivery of care managementto the service population. The post holder will work as partof a wider MDT (Multi-Disciplinary Team) consisting of receptionists, adminstaff, other HCSWs, GPs, GPNs and the practice management team. The post holderwill build effective relationships within the team which will promote goodcommunication between all staff for better patient outcomes for the servicepopulation.

·Provide Phlebotomy in accordance with training andprocedures

·New patient registration checks, NHS Health Checks,including completing any necessary

·paperwork and referrals in accordance withlocal protocols

·Provide simple wound care in accordance withtraining and procedures

·Notify the GP or GPN of any significant patient issues

·Ensure full and accurate recording in the patient’scomputerised records

·Provide lifestyleadvice, health promotion and smoking cessation to patients in accordance withtraining and making any necessary referrals in accordance with local protocols

·Assisting GPswith minor surgery and act as a chaperonewhere requested in accordance to local policy

·Clearing and restocking of consulting/treatment rooms

·Carry out administrative tasks for example, but notlimited to, call and recall activities and stock takes as directed by seniormembers of the service

·Strict adherence toinfection control in accordance with local and national policies andprocedures
