Overview

Head Veterinary Surgeon - Scunthorpe Vets for Pets
Salary up to £85,000 DOE + £5,000 Welcome Bonus
Flexible Hours | Relocation Support | Visa Sponsorship Available

We’re looking for a Head Veterinary Surgeon to join and lead our dedicated team at Scunthorpe Vets for Pets. This is a fantastic opportunity to make your mark on a rapidly expanding practice, where your voice will be heard, your expertise valued, and your career development fully supported.

About the Role

This is a flexible position, open to full-time or part-time hours, with Saturdays shared fairly across the team. There’s no on call, no out-of-hours, and no Sundays, giving you plenty of time to enjoy life outside of work.

As Head Vet, you’ll play a pivotal role in both the clinical and strategic growth of the practice. You’ll be involved in decision-making, mentoring colleagues, and helping to set high clinical standards, while still enjoying plenty of hands-on work. You should feel confident managing routine surgical and medical cases, comfortable with sole charge when needed, and open to contributing your ideas to help the practice flourish. An interest in surgery would be an advantage, but it’s not essential.

About the Team

You’ll be leading and working alongside a fantastic, close-knit team who are passionate about delivering excellent patient and client care. Our current team includes:

  • 1 Vet (currently studying for a certificate in advanced surgery)
  • 3 Registered Veterinary Nurses (RVNs)
  • 1 Student Veterinary Nurse (SVN)
  • 1 Veterinary Care Assistant (VCA)
  • 2 Client Care Advisors
  • 1 Practice Manager

This team is fully committed to supporting both each other and the clients we serve, and we’re excited to welcome a Head Vet who can guide us as we continue to grow.

Facilities & Location

Our practice is purpose-built, fully air-conditioned, and equipped with the latest state-of-the-art facilities and mod-cons, designed to industry-leading standards. Located inside Pets at Home on the Lakeside Retail Park, we’re in a busy, thriving location with great visibility and client footfall.

Travelling to and from the practice is simple, with excellent bus links just a 5-minute walk away and a nearby train station for easy commuting.

About Scunthorpe

Scunthorpe is a lively industrial town in North Lincolnshire with plenty to offer. Known as the capital of British steel, it’s also gaining a strong reputation for arts and culture, with attractions such as the 20-21 Visual Arts Centre, Bath Halls, and the Plowright Theatre, which host everything from celebrity comedians to Comic Con events.

If you enjoy the outdoors, Normanby Hall Country Park is close by, offering woodlands, gardens, and open spaces to explore. For seaside escapes, the coastal town of Cleethorpes is just a short drive away. Whether you’re into culture, countryside, or coast, Scunthorpe gives you the chance to enjoy them all, with the work-life balance to make the most of it.

Career Development

Your career growth matters to us. We offer a generous CPD allowance, actively encourage postgraduate qualifications, and will fully fund certificates. As Head Vet, you’ll not only have the opportunity to grow your own skills but also to shape the direction of the practice, influence protocols, and contribute to the professional development of your colleagues.

Rewards & Benefits

Alongside a competitive salary of up to £85,000 DOE and a £5,000 Welcome/Relocation Bonus, you’ll enjoy a comprehensive benefits package, including:

  • Fully flexible working hours (full or part-time)
  • Generous CPD allowance with funded certificates encouraged
  • Paid memberships (RCVS, VDS, BVA)
  • Contributory pension scheme & private healthcare
  • Relocation packages available (UK or overseas)
  • Visa sponsorship (A+ rated sponsor)
  • Exclusive colleague discounts (up to 30% off at Pets at Home, The Groom Room, and The Vet Group)
  • Excellent career progression opportunities across a national network
Why Join Us?

At Scunthorpe Vets for Pets, you’ll have the independence to lead like it’s your own practice, backed by the resources and stability of a trusted veterinary group. You’ll be part of a supportive, ambitious team, working in a modern environment, with the freedom to shape your career and the future of the practice.

If you’re looking for a leadership role where you can combine clinical excellence with real influence and the flexibility to enjoy life outside of work, then we’d love to hear from you.
